Will be glad to see CBLFT-13 RF44 go off the air today.
That will open up the air waves for Citytv to boom
into the area.

Sad to see TVO channel 18 go though.

Correction: According to TV Fool,CBLFT-13 is analog ch. 15,CBLFT-12 is analog ch. 44(east of Harwood,ON).

Rabbit Ears no longer lists 44 and 18 :

http://www.rabbitears.info/market.ph...n=chex#station

I checked the TV and so far they're still there.

I did a scan for digital channels, but no local digitals for them so far. That's really too bad, because,if they go,period, that'll mean only 3 local channels: 12,27,and 35.1.

I'm sad ,because they're going. Now we may as well keep Shaw Direct!

Sorry about that error... I should of double checked before posting.

It is sad to see these OTA channel going off air, especially in a market
already with very little to offer. Chances are CHEX12 and Global27 will
follow suite.

Dadden your CKVR CTV signal was +3 when analog 3 but is now -20 in digital on rf 10.Not much hope for CKVR.If your getting CBLT 5.1 you should rescan and get 19.1 TVO.

Chances are since Chex-12(CBC) is owned by Corus(rabbit Ears.info shows CKWS CH. 11 'OFF AIR.') that they and Shaw Media, who own Global will pull the plug, thereby blackmailing City Dwellers into taking Cable TV,and Cottagers into taking Satellite TV,or both going without -unless they move!Still, what can one expect in a country that's largely gotten rid of its Rail System!btw: TVO (18) Peterborough and SRC 44(they were actually east of Harwood) went off at midnight last night.

rob50312 I did rescan and I get TVO 19.1 but it is not available as often as CBLT 5.1.
I also occasionally receive 23.1 WNLO-DT and OMNI 47.1.
Most of the time I now receive 3 channels - CHEX12, Global27 and CFTO-DT35.1. The Global 27 signal is degraded compared to how it used to be.

The transition to Digital TV seems to be a regression in terms of choice and availability of over the air signals.

Did anyone think this is what would happen?

I fired off uncomplimentary E Mails to both of these stations. I'm sure I'll get the usual form letter crap, that everyone else usually gets.

Default Any New Information

I believe the digital transformaiton had a two-pronged conversion. The first took place August 31, 2011. This was a date when the larger markets, 500,000 viewers or more, had to convert from analog to digital. The second prong was that the smaller markets, which included the repeater stations, had a one year grace period to convert their equipment to digital. The deadline should be August 31st 2012. Does anyone have any knowledge about an update to this information?

Just the same old wishy washy answers from the Corus stations. They don't plan on doing anything, unless pushed hard, by the CRTC. Of course that could take decades, from that bureaucratic nightmare. They obviously saw that as an advantage, to not upgrade any faster then they had to. Amazing how the CBC repeater of CKWS, near Brighton got the HD upgrade, because they had to relocate their frequency from above 51, but their main transmitters have not been converted.

There is no such deadline for non-mandatory markets to convert.

The only stations still required to convert are the remaining global stations which Shaw committed to converting as part of their "tangible benefits package" that they committed to when they took over Global.

You might be confusing this issue with the CBC's earlier application to maintain analog broadcasting until August 31 2012 (which was subsequently shortened to July 31 2012.)

Even under the original plan, the CBC had no intentions of converting ANY of their remaining analog stations to digital. The most they were planning to consider was repeated extensions of the authority to broadcast in analog in mandatory markets (which, by the way, were defined as markets >300,000 or those with more than one originating station)

As of Sept 1, 2012, Global 27 Peterborough had still not converted to digital. Is there a deadline date for this conversion or is it whenever the CRTC decides to chase Global to fulfill their committment?

Good luck with that. Same goes for the CORUS CBC's, in Eastern Ontario. CJOH, east of Belleville, same thing on that repeater.

Most license amendments come with a 2-year time-limit for implementation, although the licensee can ask for a few extensions, I think up to 5 years in total. In this case, though, Shaw committed to finish the conversions by 2016 as part of their tangible benefits package when they took over Global, so I doubt the CRTC would grant an extension beyond 2016.

Don't recall the U.S. granting long waivers for their conversion. They gave them 10 years to convert, then they gave them a 4 month extension. Then it was use it or lose it! Canada should have done the same.
