Smile Swap Complete - 9242 Arrived!

Went online with my letter several weeks ago and never bothered to complete the process when I realized they would supply me with a 9241 and 5900. Considered calling and bitching and then got lazy and forgot.

Finally gave in on Friday and submitted to swap request and indicated I had 2 TVs.

Today the package arrived and it was a 9242! Nice black remotes to boot!

Not sure how I lucked out, but happy none the less.

Cheers

The right thing would be to replace a receiver with one with the same features at a minimum.

Anything less is unacceptable. I see you include Bell in your nickname so I understand your response.

Back on topic.......those 9200 owners who have not been swapped yet...DEMAND a 9242. You can still get them.

and then they just would have had customers expecting Bell to give them external hard drives so they don't lose the PVR function. No matter what they did there was no way to keep everybody happy (short of replacing EVERY 9200 with a 9242)

@joelouie: But even that wouldn't have worked. As we've seen here today there would still be the people who think that Bell should be giving them a second HD receiver even though that would be an upgrade. There is no way Bell can completely win but they deserve credit for making sure that no subscriber ended up with less functionality than they had before. Sadly they weren't able to achieve this by providing everyone with the 9242.

(For the record. I'm one of the people who did get a 9242 so I do admit my opinion may be a bit biased towards Bell)

I just got my letter yesterday. After reading through this thread I went on My Bell Chat this morning and the rep said they would be sending me a 9242 to replace my 9200. I did not even have to ask, but I did ask her to confirm that a 9242 would be sent, which she did! Should arrive in 5-7 days.
I will let you know how it turns out.

Thumbs up

I received my notice last week, and requested a replacement 9242 through online chat. The agent told me she was unable to offer anything other than the 9241/5900, but directed me to the 1 888 number for level 2 tech support. I phoned in, and was told that the 9242 was unavailable. I accepted the 9241/5900 combo. This combo will work for me, but was not preferred, as I like the ability to watch recorded content on either TV.
Yesterday my replacement showed up. Hmmm, only one box... Open it to find a 9242. This, coupled with surprisingly pleasant and helpful customer service, will keep me as a Bell customer, at least for now. Now I just have to remember my Logitech login to reprogram my Harmony .

I read through some of the thread, but 77 pages is a bit much. Can someone verify that I can watch the recorded programs on my 9200 without a satellite hookup? Thanks.

Question Phase II complete??

So, now that it's August, is Bell technically finished its swap program as originally scheduled or will it drone on indefinitely? It seems as though a number of people are only now receiving their notification letters, suggesting "phase II" did not end hard and fast on July 31.

And, more importantly, when will the switch be thrown on MPEG4? I ask with a bit of sarcasm since Bell has added numerous MPEG4 channels already and I doubt they'll just suddenly switchover all the existing MPEG2 HD channels.
Shall we additionally assume they'll wait 'till the very last minute before launching their required extra locals at the end of this month? (or make excuses for delays such as the lockout of employees at the Scarsdale Road uplink site?)

Using online chat now and the agent said they have 9242's available this month. , but not last month. I should receive it within 7-10 days. Guess I'll email myself that chat session and wait it out.

Yes you can. Just cancel any error messages that pop up.

Cancel any messeges that pop up but as soon as it starts trying to connect or find a satellite signal just hit the PVR button to start playing back your recordings from the PVR list. (this was incorprated so that if there was a strom and your signal went out you could at least watch some content that you had recorded)

Well received my new PVR today. Looks like a brand new 9242, but probably refurbished.

Annnnnndddd....have to send it back. The 9242 is defective I guess. It gets stuck on channel 101, and nothing I could do could change the channel. I called support and they couldn't figure it out either. They're sending me a new one.

I've never seen a receiver stuck on a channel.

Could you bring up the guide, or the menu? What about the buttons on the front of the receiver, did they do anything?

Angry that people are getting 9242. Nothing I said would get me one. Got 2 9241. Honestly would rather have the ability to continue watching on tv2 what I started on tv1,than have Hd in the bed room. Just saying PEANO was right. Same for same not backwards. Wifes angry to...
