I have a Western Digital My Book that backs up my pc overnight. I had a big problem with the Pc and I had to refromat the hard drive. I assumed I would be able to reload the WD software and retrieve my files. No such luck. I can see that there is something called "Other Filess" on the drive but I can't retrieve them. Apparently since I had to reload the sw it thinks it's a different pc or something like that. I can't view the files either. It seems to me this is exactly what I bought it for isn't it. If I can't get those files then it's a major fail for the external drive. Any ideas?

Check the manufacturer's Web site. They must have a step by step procedure for restoring your files.
BTW, your backup plan might not be very useful if you can't take the backup drive off-site. What if there was a fire? |
