City RF44, OMNI1 RF47, TVO RF19, CBLFT RF25 all experience
co-channel interference with the Syracuse stations. If you are receiving WSYT RF17 and WTSM RF 24, then chances are CITY, OMNI , CBLFT and TVO will be impeded. |

And they are quite strong today
I actually never even thought to check syracuse.. seems on tropo days I can get 4 markets now (which is both good and bad, as you know because of interference) And sure enough CFMT/47 is at 93% and no lock. CITY/44 is fine though. |

CFMT RF47 shows up as 47.1 and WTVH shows up as 47.3 on my
Sony TV. RF43 out of Syracuse is not quite as strong so CityTV is less affected. |

Well the move is finally afoot, and from now on I'll be able to mount on my roof instead of the attic. We're going to be south of the 401, so we're maybe 1km from the lake and a straight shot to Buffalo from there.
My reception in Courtice with the attic antenna is spotty, and has grown worse over time. Channel 2 and 49 have basically disappeared. No splits or amp. But what about the same antenna in Ajax, on the outside of the house. I'm closer to the CNTower, but really no change to Buffalo. But is the indoor/outdoor a major factor? If I do have to get two antennas and aim, is it best to have the faces on the closed angle or open? That is, should the antennas look like a V, or ^, or does it make no difference at all? |

You should have no problem at that location, definitely better if using the same antenna as your current location.
Around here you pretty much aim for buffalo 100% and toronto comes in from the side pretty easily. |

Has anyone had a problem with "Cool TV"? Just tried it this morning, and I get a message that says... "Mode not Supported". The antenna is connected directly to the back of my Samsung plasma TV. I was working fine before I went on holidays (about 10 days ago) but now I get that message. All other stations seem to be just fine.

Cool TV is no more. Sinclair broadcasting yanked the channel from all of its stations.

Rosebank/Foxwood Trail
Would a CM4221 be ideal for my needs. Want to get the US networks: ABC/CBS/NBC & Fox. NBC seems to be a challenge for many. I plan on using my old Bell dish mount. I had a dual tuner receiver so I have 2 cable runs, can I use the same cable ? would I do better with 2 antennas (to use both cables) I am slightly elevated and have a great view of the South. Would another antenna be better for me. I will use a Mac Mini with Elgato EyeTV tuner to record shows. |

I live in Ajax by the lake (Hardwood and Dreyer) I have a CM 4221HD mounted on an old Bell satellite dish mount and using a CM 7000 ATSC converter as I still have an old CRT TV. I am pointed directly south towards Buffalo and get all the major Buffalo and Toronto channels. I also sometimes get Rochester and Syracuse stations. But the problem I always get is channel 9-1 always keeps alternating from CFTO and WSYR from Syracuse. I want CFTO and for me to get it back to CFTO, I have to rescan and then it usually comes back. And when it's at CFTO, the signal is always 100%. I tried to move the antenna more SW, but then my Buffalo channels do not come in at 100% anymore as they do when I point directly south. Any ideas?
Thanks |

WSYR 9.1 is actually on RF17, but when it comes in it will hi-jack the 9.1
spot on your tuner. For me I don't have to rescan, but simply type in 9.3 then CFTO will resume it's 9.1 position. If channel 9.2 is in your channel line up you can get rid of it so your tuner won't ever tune RF17. |

During Troppo, when I get WSYR, my samsung tv doesn't have a problem, I get two 9.1's. The older toshiba tv isn't as forgiving. Not all tuners are created equal.
And on another note, to dshel, the 4221 was an ok antenna, but the newer style AD DB-4e is a much better antenna. I wouldn't recomend using your old Bell mount, unless its on the peak of your roof. You need the OTA antenna higher. If you can see the lake from your roof, you'll get buffalo channels just fine.

Can the AD DB-4e be mounted on my Bell dish mount like my CM 4221HD currently is? My mount is at the peak of my roof so no problem with height but I would really love to bring in 67 WBBZ MeTV. I have no problems with any other Buffalo station, all come in at 90-100%. But would really like MeTV as I sometimes pick it up better on 10-2 from Rochester better than from Buffalo. But the reception is very spotty and unreliable. Have tried several positions of my antenna and think I have come up with the optimal where I get Buffalo and Toronto so I am happy with the CM 4221HD. But for me MeTV would be a bonus. Love Bonanza and The Big Valley!!

Hi pmf115, the only way to get WBBZ reliably, would be with a dedicated VHF antenna. Although they're shown on channel 67.1, they really operate on VHF ch 7.
You would need a YA-1713 of AD C5. Either could be combined with your 4221 with a UVSJ.

The AD DB4e does mount the same way.
Don't expect much success from using a UHF antenna for VHF channels (WBBZ is 7 and WHEC is 10). If you want any hope of reliable reception of either of those stations, add a VHF antenna instead: Antennas Direct C5 Winegard y1713 Antennacraft y10-7-13 Antennacraft y5-7-13 Use a pre-amp and rotator to maximize your potential and to give you the option to switch aim between Buffalo and Rochester as conditions warrant. If you're otherwise happy with your Channel Master 4221hd, don't replace it to improve VHF reception. By the way, there are two reasons why you have trouble with WBBZ: 1) Its transmitter is not high up and it is a relatively weak channel 2) your antenna has no gain for VHF 7 (and 10). The DB4e also has no VHF gain. Please reconsider your antenna choice.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply but I am a real rookie here and don't have a clue to what you just told me. Can you expand on that? Thanks |
