Default Audio problems-help

When the settings on the Rogers 8300 PVR is set to Dolby Digital it comes through the stereo speakers intermittently.I have tried new optical wires to no avail.
When I set it to HDMI the sound comes through clearly.

Suggestions anyone?

Thanks

Default mAYBE?

OK with all the techs we have had Im wondering if one of them hook something up wrong?

I had a hdmi going form the rogers box to the tv.

I had the optical cable going from the Stereo to the rogers box optical hook up slot

I left the hdmi cable from the tv to the rogers box and I switched the optical cable, which is going from the TV to the stereo now

I set it on Digtal Dolby in the rogers box and it works now ?

Is the right way to set it up??

Right way? Probably not. Connect the STB to the AVR directly with optical or coaxial and use the DD setting in the STB. Use HDMI to the TV for video only. Reboot the STB.

Read the bolding: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=17870

If you are getting a true DD5.1 signal for the appropriate channels at the AVR, then you can feel free to leave it the way you have it.

Default help

Thanks for your help once again 57

What do stv-avr stand for?Im thinking Stv (rogers box) and avr (stereo)?I had that but the audio would cut out a lot ,it wasnt a steady sound? The Dvd worked fine?Thought it was the wire but got a new one and same problem.

Also on the settings under Set:Picture format do I set it under Auto/DVI?HDMI? The font seems bigger now on the settings..

You did such a good job setting me up but with 5 rogers guys over the last month and half its seems out of wack now...

Thanks

1) See 57 FAQ - Acronyms & Definitions: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=17715
STB = Set Top Box (for Cable, Satellite or OTA)
AVR = Audio/Video Receiver

2) Under "Set: Picture Format", most use "Fixed" to avoid a few problems associated with Auto-HDMI.
See 57 FAQ - Tips For SA (Cisco) STBs. (also Pace): http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=17719
Then under "Picture Format" (hit settings only once), most select 1080i even on 768P HDTV.

have found that the surround sound is sometimes intermittent. I think it is mainly due to the signal coming through as one day it will work but will have no sub working and the next it is fine. I guess if it doesent have a strong signal coming something has to go
