Come to think of it the 6100 and the 9200 are the only ones I've seen that are not black. There may be others, just from what I have seen.

Nope. The 6000 was black. And it cost $899 - $999 when it first came out. The 6100 was a newer version of the 6000 with a silver case but it still had the black front panel.

OK, thanks for the correction. I remember seeing them and I thought that I remembered them silver in color. My first Bell hd receiver was the 6100 model.

Ok here is a list of BEV/BTV receivera from the Model 1000 to the 9242 and they colour they where(closest as I can reall):
1000-Black 2700-Black 3100-Black 3200-Black 3500-Greyish-black? not 100 % sure on this one 3700-Black 4100-Black 4500-Greyishblack 4700-Black 5100-Black 5200-Black 5800-Black 5900-Black 6000-Black 6100-Silver(not sure why? considering most where Black up to this point?)6131-Black 6141-Black 6400-Black 9200-Silver(again not sure why same reason as for the 6100 receiver answer) 9241-Black 9242-Black So it appears out of all the receivers issued by BEV/BTV 2 where silver(God knows why? ) and 1 or 2 where a GreyishBlack, all the others where Black in colour. As to any new receivers down the road I'm assuming most likely they'll be black in colour.

The 6100 was released in April 2004 and the 9200 in July 2005 (your list is in numeric, not chronological order). At that time most TV's and other components were silver. So the answer to your question about "why" is that silver was the trend at the time. It's as simple as that. I have 2 TVs, a DVD player, and an audio receiver from 2005 and all were silver. Plus a stand. With all that silver, a black box would have really stuck out and not in a good way.
TVs and components quickly flipped back to black and so did the Bell boxes. |
