Default Are you kidding me? Power failure wipes out Motorola Memory?

Power flickered for a second and the favorites list was wiped out on the Motorola 6200.....wow, what a POS!!!!!

A power "wink" can often be far more destructive to microprocessor based appliances than a longer duration outage (say 5 minutes) as the device can safely loose power. A "wink" often can cause internal voltage changes that can simulate reprogramming of cmos devices and corrupt memory.

Also, back-emf from motorized appliances can add to the re-applied line voltage causing line "flaring" which can put some power supplies out of tolerance for input voltage, causing power supply failure or faults taking out important components.

Thumbs down

I have not ben getting the chanels I pay for on my second HD box for over 5 years. Now my primary TV in the den has not been working for 5 weeks and for the past 6 months half the time my chanels are all small squares and the sound is garbled. Had techs out to my house three or four times, returned cable box and replaced it. Nothing works except Cgeco's billing department. They seem to get that right. Then they have the nerve to charge me more for my internet because I was using Netflix because of course my cable isn't working. I my CSR's treated my customers like the way I have been treated I would have fired them on the spot. Told Cogeco to come and pick up there equipment by the end of the week or it will be at the curb. I am not going back to return it, I am not a curior service. They said if I did that they would charge me for the equipment. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

You just might want to return the equipment...

On our latest statement there's an itemized list of charges that can be levied (in the right hand sidebar)

$799.99 a pop for equipment not returned.

So... If you don't return it, either they do pick it up or your bill is going to get a LOT bigger.... :-(

Rant,

Called Cogeco to rent a PVR, and when asked I was told I would get a PACE 200 model. Installer brought the old Motorola model which wouldn't fit in space (in wall above fireplace). He apologized for the old model and advised me to return it to the Cogeco store for the Pace model. Store said it doesn't have any PACE models, only these old clunkers, so I gave it back. Store clerk asked if I wanted to cancel the cable service. I said no; she said that I needed a receiver; I said I had a digital receiver that the installer activated. She said they have no record of it.

In the past COGECO has started charging me rental for receivers I purchased, and now they don't even know the receiver they activated.

This is about the poorest customer service I have ever seen. It is a shame that the CRTC allows cable monopolies to exist.

So, I am going back to recording ClearQAM on my HTPC and use ATSC with my $20 digital antenna. Cogeco, you lose......

Default missing channels

I just noticed I lost another channel 238.. I lost 236 who knows when, I guess I never watched it much... Also lost several other channels over the past few years, and paying MORE for the less service...
What a rip off....

Re post 365:

OK, to be fair, I called customer service to complain. They said they would call me back but didn't. A week later the PACE DVR arrived and I must say my family are quite happy with it. Thanks To Cogeco.

To be fair, channels 236 and 238 were timeshifted feeds that were both discontinued at the end of august. Cogeco just aired the eastern feeds on these channels until they were removed from the guide

Default Sportsnet HD

Has anyone been having a problem getting sportsnet HD ? I haven't gotten it over a week now. When I call Cogeco they said they are aware of the problem and are working on it.

It's wonderful. Apparently COGECO has gone a bought a US cable company. How wonderful for them. What I would like to see is COGECO increase their HD programming for the customers they already have. TCM, anyone?

Cogeco is not the only provider who dumped the western feed of some of the channels. Shaw Direct also dumped TVtropolis and Showcase West. Some other cable channels like Dusk stopped broadcasting. Sometimes companies change packages and move channels around.

Well, finally dumped Cogeco after 18 years or so. I first signed up for a Cable modem, jeez, maybe in 1996 I think. It was a big old Zenith box for around $80 a month I think. And been with them ever since with all sorts of different packages. My main gripe was fact that I hate using their Tuner boxes with my TV. I was recently using the built in Qam tuner, but having to reprogram every month because they'd switch the channels around.

But price finally made me do it.

So I switched my internet to Start.ca, phone to voip.ms with an Obi100 adapter, and for TV I put two Channel master 4228 antennas on the roof.

Best of luck with your new setup.

I always wonder what the gameplan is though for someone who joins a forum just to dump on a company. If you had been around for a few years and posted some experiences I might be able to take you seriously.

I assume you are using this as a means to plug Start Communications. While Start is a pretty good operator they have not been without problems over the years but certainly are worth looking at for those wanting to reduce costs as you are doing.
