Loud noise from keypad - Canadian TV, Computing and Home Theatre Forums

My keypad suddenly started making this high pitch noise. What could cause this. It's been working fine for the past 2 years and when I got home tonight it was making this noise. The only changes made in the house recently was adding a whole house surge protector. Could this be causing it? All my other keypads are working fine. Also my ISY can't communicate with it.

I know the keypads have a beep function if the load is incorrect but you didn't change the lights, put in CFL, LED, new bulbs by any chance did you?

Curious if you tried to factory reset it?

Last night I disconnected the switch to stop the noise. This morning someone asked me the same thing so I re wired the switch to try a factory reset but it no longer beeped. This must have done a reset by having it disconnected all night. And no I didn't change any bulbs.

I checked with someone on this and the keypads from a couple of years ago had built in short circuit protection and it's possible there was a power outtage or surge where the inrush current made the keypad think there was a short. Removing power allowed it to reset itself. At this point it doesn't sound like any sort of issue since it reset and has only happened once in 2 years. If it keeps happening, your new surge suppressor might be doing something 'funky' to the power but at this point I think you're good.

They removed this feature in more recent keypads.
