When the uplink goes dead does that mean 0 signal from the sat? Shouldn't there still some signal from sat but no programming?

Thank you for the reports. I've added the outage date and time to post 1 - first this year at the uplink. If you get an outage like this, the weather links in post 1 will clearly show a thunderstorm over Toronto. Severe thunderstorms like the one yesterday are often quite localized, so although it may be sunny and clear in Mississauga, there can be a downpour at the uplink. For example, I only got 10mm today while some friends we were visiting only a few km away got 50mm.
As I was leaving for my friends' place, my GPS also took quite a while to lock onto the satellites.

Most transponders operate on a "bent pipe" principle, sending back to earth of what goes into the conduit with only amplification and a shift from uplink to downlink frequency. So the satellite reuses the RF energy sent up to it as the up-link...

Anyone from the Maritimes on right now? My signal just froze and keeps runinng through the satellite and transponder tests and isn't getting a signal. I did a reset but no luck. I can access my PVR recordings just fine. The weather in Halifax is perfectly clear, the moon is out.
