To my knowledge, it is an IR remote, but I myself don't have an extender/repeater to try out. I have found that a lot of the time the receiver is very slow to respond, even when only sitting a couple of feet away and pointing the damn remote right at the receiver. So much for the "fastest channel change." Yeah, once it finally registers!

It is definitely an IR remote, as I am using my IR Harmony to control the box.

Here are some tips for anyone looking at remote control extenders. This is based on what I've read on AT&T U-verse forums over the last couple of years. U-verse uses the same hardware and software and has over 2 million subs, so it's a good resource for more unusual situations.
The VIP1200 series uses a carrier frequency of around 60 KHz while many IR extenders only repeat frequencies in the 40 KHz range. One product that users have reported success with is the Hot Link Pro. I haven't tried a remote extender personally. Another possibility is an RF remote that AT&T sells as an option, although it may be hard to get your hands on one unless you know someone that lives in the U.S. I've heard a rumour that MTS will also be selling an RF remote. |

Crap. Should've read your post before I ordered one from Amazom. Seems like the extender I ordered is not compatible with U-Verse.

I can confirm the Amazon infrared extender does not work. Where's the cheapest place to buy a Hot Link Pro? I found a site that sells it for around $100 (includes shipping).

Just tried Hot Link Pro and it does work with the STB.

Does anyone know what frequency the Bell Fibe TV VIP2622 remote control operates at? Or what kind of IR extender would work for this receiver? I am trying to locate the Bell Fibe TV receiver in basement, and TV in main floor family room, what IR over coax extender will work for this situation?
Thanks. Last edited by Dr.Dave; 2012-06-28 at 11:43 AM. Reason: Moved to existing thread - see previous posts |

Motorola (the STB manufacturer) makes an RF remote which AT&T and MTS sell for an additional cost. You can check with Bell to see if they also sell it. See this thread.
Edit: if you're just controlling 1 TV with the VIP2622, Bell can install it next to the TV in the family room and connect it by coax to the router in the basement. |

I use an extender that convert the stock remote into a rf remote. My box is in the electric room and feeds 3 tvs. It is calles "next generation remote extender" it works great and have a comparable or greater range than the bell sat uhf remotes. Totally happy with it.
