Turning it down would in essence be hypocritical, and it will likely get approved, although the process, which is pure politics, will likely take more time than is necessary. They should also apply for NBC Sports channel

Even if they still had the license for the Baseball Channel, I'm not sure they could use it to bring in the MLB Channel. They could use it to launch a Canadian version of the MLB Channel with content from the US channel, but I think the channel would have to have Canadian content as well. On the other hand, I believe this is an application to simply allow the MLB Channel (as is) to be added to Canadian cable systems in the same way that CNN, A&E, TLC, etc. are.

I remember reading somewhere that Rogers wanted to have it available by March 2013, but you never know they might add it sooner

No rush to have it up until preseason starts which is in February this year. Then again, I wonder if they will show the über exciting Rule 5 Draft...

I'm assuming Rogers is sponsoring this channel in Canada, does that mean Rogers will have it first before the competition?? or could it show up on other providers before Rogers has it

This is great news for me, I'm so glad this channel has been approved. I'm assuming that both hd and sd versions will be available. Now the next big challenge is getting my provider (Bell TV) to carry it.

Rogers will have it off the bat since they are supporting it and already have an agreement it seems.

Cogeco will likely drag their feet. They do not seem concerned about getting new channels on line quickly.

This is great news for us baseball fans. I hope Rogers will include both the SD/HD versions in the VIP package.

Rogers probably will get it first likely followed by Eastlink since they carry everything available .

I know why Rogers is doing this now. The MLB Network is the exclusive home in the US for the World Baseball Classic this spring. I'm not sure whether watching Team Canada is a huge draw for most sports fans, but if Rogers does receive approval for MLB Network, I can see them keeping Team Canada off of Sportsnet's family of channels to force BDUs to add MLB Network.

Either way, I hope this happens and Shaw signs an agreement to carry it. I hate that very rarely are their exclusive US National games shown in Canada. Thus, depriving Canadians of some of the more hyped games. It annoyed me greatly, that no Canadian TV network picked up MLB Network's coverage of Stephen Strasburg's debut in 2010. As a die-hard Expos.....err Nationals fan, MLB Network shows many of their games and I'll be glad to be able to see them on my regular cable.

Have any carriers been announced to carry it yet?
