Can RIM not provide some assistance, or are you entirely at the mercy of the carrier?

That I dont know, at the mercy of the carrier I think.
problem is this keyboard does not even light up, and I use this thing in the dark a lot, I will just move forward with some other company.

I would still call RIM tech support. From your serial number, they will know if the phone is still under warranty. They might suggest a 'hard reset' procedure to see if the phone can be recovered. You have tried removing the battery and restarting?

Why doesn't Videotron have PBS in it's american time shifting.if any other provider would do this there would be outrage.
I would think shifting is to have all 5 major networks which for reasons of work or other you can't watch at regular hours.

I was more annoyed at the lack of HD stations, which is why I droped their time-shifting packages long ago...

Yeah I don't see that happening very soon!
As for PBS I chatted with customer support , asked why don't they have PBS, i was told in a nice way they don''t have it that's the reason. In other words we don't care ,if we did we'd have it.

So here we are 6 months into 2012 and Videotron had managed to add just four anglo HD channels to their lineup: Discovery, Space, Bravo and Spike.
I have subscribed to Discovery and Space since Bravo has mostly repeats and Spike does not carry any programs of interest to me.

Let’s hope that Videotron manages to negotiate with AMC and Shaw (HGTV, Food, and Showcase) for more unique HD content during the next 6 months otherwise the above four channels will be all we get for 2012.

Last time I checked on Videotron's facebook page, they were announcing that a bunch of new channels are coming soon, "worth the wait". Then in another reply, they mention some new HD channels will be distributed in MPEG-4.

On the other hand, they're about to launch Prise 2 HD (owned by Groupe TVA), and ABC Spark in SD only.

Not so good news. Prise 2 is an equivalent to Dejaview or Comedy Gold, all programming comes from the 80's & 90's television vault, and there are some old american movies (normally from their Columbo, Elvis and Jerry Lewis library) playing once a day. Eventho Vidéotron's distribution network is obviously full, launching such channel from parent company with bottom-low HD content is not a proper usage of the remaining bandwidth, even more frustrating when other channels are offering HD content all day but were denied access due to limited bandwidth.

As for distributing new channels in MPEG-4 only, only Cisco 8642/4642 and Samsung terminal owners will have access to those new HD channels. Everyone who brought an HD terminal before january 2011 (before Cisco terminals were sold) will have an obsolete terminal they'll have to throw away in the garbage and buy a new gen terminal, along with the current bugs we know.

I do not own any Cisco or Samsung terminals so any new HD channels ditributed in MPEG-4 format will not be available to me.

However, if Videotron opens the HD flood gates and match Fibe TV anglo offerings I may consider geting a new terminal for my main TV and keep the legacy ones for my other televisions.

Who knows, if they also get the whole home PVR working together with all these new HD channels I may even get a second new terminal to get advantage of this new functionality.

What i find MOST amazing is they have channels like VOX AND TELEMAG in HD also CINEPOP which has movies from THE 60S 70s and 80s most of the time.VOX and TELEMAG do not need to be in hd as i know of no one that even watch those,I know i don't.

I would say that Bravo actually carries a number of interesting shows. The Borgias, Suits, White Collar, Political Animals, Dallas.

I just got my first internet bill and let me tell you I wasn't happy. They have billing practices that even Bell and other big companies don't use. They installed the internet on July 7. 13 days later July 20 they bill me!!! Just 13 days!!! Got the bill on July 25. I have to pay my first bill with a month in advance by the 7 of August.Usually a company caluclates your bill from the 7th to 20th of July and tap on the month in advance. That is how bell, telus and Fido do it but not Quebecor. They bill you for the whole month July7th-Aug 6th plus a month in advance and they do it on July 20th. So I am paying a month and 18days in advance.

They have done that too with mobile. It's amazing how their CS people say this is normal and there is nothing wrong.

I have had phone line with Bell, Mobile with Telus and Fido and currently have Satellite with Bell and they don't bill people the way Videotrn. My Satellite service was installed on May 27. So after 30 days have passed they bill for one month of usage plus a month in advance. But if they bill you halfway through your first month than they calculate 15 days plus a month in advance not the whole first month.

With each day that passes it seems that Videotron is a very greedy company and want their money even before first month of service has finished.

Prior to getting their internet I called and inquired about their rates. I called 3 times as the rates offered by their agents seemed to low. On the 4th call I finally got the correct rates and told a supervisor that their agents were omitting vital information so they can collect comission at the end of their week. Honestly that last time I remember a company doing this was Bell 8 years ago. I remember Bell's pamphlets had so much fine print that it had conditions on top of conditions.

Looking at Videotron now I see that they are now doing that whereas Bell has simplified things and has made their pamphlets more clearer to understand.

If Videotron does not change their approach they will lose alot of business to Bell. Before Videotron could argue that their TV service was more reliable than Satellite which is true. But with FibeTV now available Videotron can no longer claim that because Bell has an option to Satellite.

Also before Videotron could claim faster Internet which was true but Bell Fibe is now also offering very fast Internet.

So when Fibe comes to my area I will switch to their internet. And when My mobile agreement is over I will go back to either to Fido or Telus. The Spectrum that Videotron uses AWS does not penetrate buildings well and I get no signal in many places where I used to with other companies.

As for whole home PVR, when Videotron customers do get it it will be thanks to Bell FibeTV. From what I have seen from their promos, they are only reacting to what Bell is doing.

Until not too long ago Videotron's fastest internet speed was 120 Mbits but Bell came out with 175 Mbits and now Videotron has responded with 200Mbits download speed.

When Bell FibeTV started offering their PVR for free that iswhen Videotron countered with a free PVR for 2 years BUT you have to spend a minimum of $50 and pay a HD fee.

There is however one Bell Promo that I think Videotron will never match.

My girlfriend just got a letter from Bell. The Promo is Bell FibeTV and Internet for $39.90 for the first 6 months. After the 6th month it is $54,31

AND THE KICKER IS.... that the PVR is free for 36 months and after that it's hers. With ONLY 2 Services. And these 2 services are basic TV and basic Internet.

I'm being harsh with Videotron but the truth is that they really don't care about their customers old or new.

Hey Rogue,

Can you provide specifics as to what is offered as far as Fibe TV and Internet. I'm guessing the TV is the basic package with no extras but I'd like to know what Internet is offered (Fibe 16?).

That's a sweet deal. I almost switched over to Bell earlier this year but the kicker was how much more I would pay for their landline than what I pay for Videotron. All the savings for switching over were lost in that alone. If they are offering a "free" PVR for only TWO services, that's enough for me to switch.
