I have a one meter dish in People's Republic of Illinois, about 150 miles SW of Chicago and get nothing from 91. Toyed with putting a circular LNB on my 10 ft BUD but the heat wave and not wanting to dedicate the BUD to Bell demotivated me. The ITC Shaw channels came in pretty good on my 4DTV last time I checked. With the 1 meter dish on Bell I was getting 100% on most transponders before the switch with a few being in the upper 80s. The original 18 inch one was prone to rain fade, I had set it up to look at 82 when there were a few channels in my package on 82 but on clear days it sometimes hit the mid 50s.

Ordered a Shaw Direct system last week and it has been held up at the border. Had my friend in Canada cancel Bell for me and of course yesterday the billing cycle started so paying a month and getting nothing, then had him tell me he would rather not be my proxy address for the new system since they kept trying to talk him into staying (I still had several free PPV movies I never used that were a sign up bonus).

From adm222's experience, I'm not going to bother with a larger dish. Bye-bye Bell, methinks.

But for thos wishing to experiment and tinker here is a tip: Suspend your programming immediately for $10/mo while you tinker (you can do it online without phoning); better than paying the full monthly price. You can still go thru the install procedures to see if you get signal strength.

Also another tip is if you have autopay switch that off when you cancel then wait for the last bill and pay it yourself so they can't take a whole billing month and then you have to try to get some of it back.

Sry Cheech I dont know what you mean, what does 82 have to do with closing your credit card?

Sorry, should have posted your quote from yesterday....
"yes also no xpdrs at all now in SF Bay Area. Bye bye Bell it was nice while it lasted... "

I'm understanding with the new satellite that 91 is no longer available south of Washington/Oregon border. But am curious to know about Nimiq 82, that's all.

Cheers.

Oh hi Cheech, got it. No, 82 hasn't been in California for years so we didn't just lose it this week. Probably somebody will remember when that sat went up. I forget whether there was another sat at 82 before that that came this far south. Anyway people who wanted HD in the States had to get Shaw years ago unless they live near Canada.

I am pretty sure that all signals from Bell Nimiq 82 stopped in early 2008 (near Tampa). This bird carries most if not all the HD programming. I remember the time because it happened days after I purchased a 50" HD TV for the Florida house. I did get to enjoy HD for a few days before they started to dissapear forever.

Bayguy/channelsurfer,
Thanks for the info. It also sounds likes Shaw will be doing the same thing in the near future. Not sure if it is worth it to go that route either. Bummer! So much for watching NHL from a Canadian feed.

Cheech read the Shaw threads people are saying that probably the new Shaw sat will be for extra channels like local stations and people wont loose the channels they have. Well we don't know for sure but we went ahead and got Shaw last month. We think it will be good for quite a while.

All signals were just lost because of bad weather over the Uplink Station, give it a minute it should be back.

I would use TP#1.

I have been trying for two days and have tried transponder 1. Was wondering if I should be using a high def receiver?? Have tried all the transponders.

No reason to use an HD box as long as you stick to 1 & 32.

Default Would dedicated 82 and 91 dishes improve reception?

I'm sitting on the edge of the published footprint for 82 and 91. I get some channels on 91 at the moment, nothing on 82. Neighbors trees are part of the problem....luckily I get 81 during the hockey season, perhaps because leaves have fallen.

I have a dual lnb dish currently, but have another dual lnb dish sitting in storage. If mount both dishes, aim one for 82 and the other for 91 do you think I'd get better reception than one dish dual feed? I see on internet sites that I can replace my dual lnb yoke with what is called an "I" adapter that will hold one lnb in a central position rather than using the "Y" adapted that holds the lnb to one side or the other. Would that also help? Anyone try this?
