The CRTC arbitration hearings are today, but I read the decision may take 10 working days. Legally, the CRTC has until the last week of July to announce the decision.

So ultimately what will this hearing do? And how would the public benefit from it?

I was hoping, Dr. Dave, that we might know something about those hearings a little sooner, and am disappointed we might have to wait this long.
Ryandude_12345, these hearings determine whether Eastlink and other members of the CIDG (Canadian Independent Distributors Group) can come to some sort of understanding to carry more Bell Media channels such as Space HD, Discovery HD, and Bravo HD, and could also have some bearing on the channels Eastlink is carrying from them now. In my opinion, these hearings are very significant, if you want to see more Bell Media channels or keep the ones you have now. In other stuff, I notice that Eastlink TV, HD, is on channel 610, and displaying a countdown, to July 1st, I assume. |

Regarding the hearings, whatever decision comes down is final from the way I read it.
IMO, we will get them but at what cost and how will they be packaged is still up in the air. |

I sincerely hope that you are correct, denben73. My understanding is that these hearings will simply establish pricing and conditions for Eastlink and other cablecos to carry these channels, with no ironclad guarantee that they will actually follow through. If the terms and prices set by the CRTC are too high, the cablecos may just walk away. Let us hope that the CRTC's decision is truly fair.
In other stuff, there was a big article in my paper today indicating that older, non digital TVs will be obsolete on Eastlink by the end of the year. If I read between the lines, this would indicate that Eastlink will be phasing out analog channels by then, which would free up more channel capacity for more HD, and faster internet as well. |

It now appears that Eastlink will not be carrying Cartoon Network Canada after all, or not when it launches on July 4th anyway. I wonder what happened, since Eastlink was listed as carrying it earlier.

Myself, I probably wouldn't be watching it outside of the "Adult Swim" content so it isn't the biggest disappointment out there but what gives? I saw that a couple of previews were ending in June but were extended a few days so I figured that was on purpose to coincide with the launch since it all the work gets done at the same time.
It's been about two and a half months since any new content has been added for most systems, around this part its been over 3 months now and this is not normal from what I've seen in the past. According to their Twitter person, we were scheduled to receive ABC Spark HD and everything else since then in June but that has come and gone. Disappointing really. OTOH, if I know from experience....*bam* everything is there and more some day in the future with no notice ahead of time. I hope it is soon. |

Add my voice to yours, denben73, as being disappointed that Eastlink has added almost nothing in the past few months, and like you, I have to ask, "What gives?", since Eastlink used to be quite aggressive about adding new channels, especially more HD.
Hopefully, Eastlink will get back "on track" in the not too distant future. |

Yes, I see the community channel in HD up and running, gbangr, and it looks good, but it is useless to me without CC.
I might as well admit that Cartoon Network Canada is not of great interest to me. However, it does concern me somewhat that three companies, including Eastlink, were originally scheduled to carry that channel, and of those three, it is only Eastlink that was removed from the list. Something tells me that negotiations to carry the channel fell through at the last minute. |

Some time this evening, someone on Twitter asked if they will be carrying Cartoon Network Canada. Their answer? Yes
No exact specifics but I think that is the first straight and to the point answer they have given out in a long time. Could they be launching that a few others at the same time maybe? Don't know... The article that appeared in The Halifax newspaper on Saturday, is there anyway to see it online? If I google for it, I get an "Access Denied" error. |

That is interesting about what you read in Twitter, denben73, and I assume it will not be on lauch day, but "sometime in the future".( I should add that Eastlink's reply to the question was certainly brief, a simple "yes"). Who know when that will be. I know that way back in January, someone asked about Discovery Channel HD on Eastlink's site, and the answer was "soon, really soon", and as of now, there is still no sign of that one. As a result of that earlier post, I remain skeptical about any channel discussed on Eastlink's Twitter page until I actually see it show up in the guide.
The article on Saturday was called, "Day of Digital Nears, Eastlink Warns", and it was in the business section. I have the article before me right now, in printed form, but if I try to access it online, I get the "access denied" error as well. |

On the bottom the of Cartoon Network's webpage it says "Free Preview On Now" showing the Telus, Cogeco and EastLink logos.
I'm not sure what to believe right now. I'm not at home so I won't see anything until after dinner tonight. EL hasn't posted anything anywhere. Que sera, sera I guess. |

It is NOT on Eastlink, denben73, at least not here in Halifax, and I assume that website is in error. Apparently, subscribers from the other two companies are getting that channel now.
I have to wonder if part of the reason for Eastlink not picking it up at ths time is due to the impending sale to Bell Media. |
