Thanks a lot! I had that issue myself.

Default Deleted Items Still Not Deleting Permanently

Man! It did the same thing again! I deleted the Wimbledon coverage after watching it today and, once again, I can see it didn't delete properly as the percentage of space used didn't change at all. It was about seven hours or so of coverage, so it should have made a significant change in space once it was deleted.

I can't be doing a PVR flush every other day as it's kind of a pain to keep resetting my timers. This never happened prior to the 0.7.33 update. Is anyone else having this problem chronically now?

With 6.22, occasionally a recorded event would properly appear in the PVR list of recorded events, but would not play like there was no content – just the title.

So far with 7.33 we have not seen the no-content problem, but it is still early with 7.33 for us.

BTW, we see the HD capacity graph correctly indicate less content on the HD as we delete recorded shows. Never had that problem with 6.22 or 7.33 so far.

After the update, I noticed the guide was not as long as promised and recurring recording were only scheduled for a day in advance. That just changed and all the events are now scheduled.

Default Capacity

Something similar to TheHans

I have 12 hours of recording and show 50% on the graph. My PVR has gone and removed a ton of recordings that were not protected. The 12 hours is not all HD -- this seems like the capacity of my machine has dropped significantly.

Do these numbers seem reasonable??

Just did a pVR flush and many events I had recorded returned (although none of the ones that deleted by the unit) Never had this issue before. Looks like more issues with this update.

I don't think it is an issue related to the 7.33 update specifically. Mine was kicking around 25% with 1 recording, so I did the PVR flush. 15 recordings showed up that weren't there before, some going all the way back to September.

Now whether these were recordings that failed to delete properly after I chose to delete them, recordings that may have been being recorded or watched when the 630 does the self reboot or recordings that never ever showed up in the list I can't be certain.

Maybe 7.33 is just displaying usage more accurately than it use to or we are all just noticing it now that it is being discussed.

I guess that makes sense. The majority of the recordings that reappeared were quite recent (5 Euro games) and the NBA draft but there were a few older ones as well. I guess I'm just disappointed as I lost a lot of stuff that I had not yet watched.

I personally haven't found this to be an issue specific to the new firmware. I noticed my hard drive % used to be slowly creeping up for a while now and just recently started looking into it and learned about doing a pvr flush.

I think this is something specifically that has to do with the PVR flush. I'm one of the people who always deletes recordings right away. So it's quite common for me to see 0% used on my hard drive. Plus I'd *never* seen more than, say, 20% used. Since the update, I was seeing higher figures in the total disk space used. Like 35% or even 50%. Additionally, I took closer notice after doing the first flush and saw that, when I deleted seven plus hours in HD of Wimbledon coverage, there was no change in space used. That was ultimately why I did a second one.

I actually have a theory about this. This is quoted from the first post on this thread from SD 630 Support regarding the improvements with the update:

Guide Loading/Guide Backup Changes - HDDSR units now maintain a 24-hour mini-backup of the Guide. Full data will still reload in <30 minutes following a reset or flush. HDPVR units will no longer display the "Loading" message when the Guide is being backed up.

Now, it's just a theory, but I think somehow this mini-cache of the guide is somehow confusing the 630 and causing it to randomly keep deleted recordings and not permanently delete them. Don't ask me why. Just a gut feeling. There's no doubt that the guide and the timers are extremely closely tied together...

Anyway, the point of the PVR flush as I was told (re: that thread posted earlier with the code to initiate the flush) was to recover lost recordings. When I called about it back then (then posted that thread) I was told that this PVR flush couldn't initiate itself. But it did, as you can read in the thread. My point being that this 630 does all kinds of interesting things that the people who program the software don't realise it will do. Until it's tested on all of us in a less-than-controlled situation.

I think this has directly been caused by the software update and I'm not sure there's anything that can be done about it until the next update. Other than do the PVR flush...

Firmware updates often introduce new bugs or reveal old ones. In the 8 years or so that I've been using PVRs, I've seen them made more unstable or almost useless due to bad firmware updates. I've also had to format the hard drive numerous times to make a PVR stable again. At least the 630 has a "flush" option that recovers recordings. The flush rebuilds the program database from disk so it's a little more like a system file check than a format.

There is definitely something odd going on with the disk indicator. For no apparent reason, mine jumped from 70% to 93% a few days ago. After a reset (unplugged) in went back to 70%. Go figure.

Default Trouble with VOD

I have managed to get VOD working only twice since the download and each time it meant rebooting the receiver after plugging in my ethernet cable. I tried to open VOD this afternoon and had no success even after two soft resets. Is there something I am doing wrong or is this a common complaint?

It's difficult to say without more info. In this case. I would check the internet connection status and do a speed test.

Scarybob, my Internet connection is by wire (25 feet) from the router to the receiver, and is good, and my download speeds are often in the plus ten mb when checking with Shaw Internet. However according to the VOD (when I did get it to work) was around 4.5 mb. Don't know what else I can tell you. Just did a Shaw speed test and I am getting 17.6 download and .5 upload speed
