@audacity - While OTA is a related subject, the goal of the Community is provide Shaw customers with support-related information for their Shaw products and services, so it's probably not the right place to post that information.

We're looking for more users to help with contributing content though so if you're interested, fire me an PM and we can chat.

Cheers.

Shaw does own CityTV, which provides a OTA signal, so in a sense at least one OTA signal is very much a Shaw product.

This imagined "How To" post would be all about showing how to better leverage the internet + OTA (one Shaw service) in such a way that you can save money on another Shaw service.

I can see how Shaw would be happy about the first bit (better leveraging their Internet product) and unhappy about the second bit (fewer people buying their cable TV product), so this is a interesting intersection, especially combined with the Shaw's stated goal of no censorship.

Rogers owns CityTV and Omni
Shaw owns Global

I agree with shawsean, I don't think the community forum would be the right place for posting information about getting OTA signals, including Global (aka Shaw Media) signals.

Although Global is owned by Shaw, the community forum is targeted towards customers of their residential cable services. Similarly, posts about Shaw business services, Shaw Direct, GlobalTV itself, or Corus Entertainment would probably be considered off-topic.

That is not to say that such discussions wouldn't be allowed on the forum; they may be allowed in the Lounge, but I think you'd be testing their limits if you wrote an article instructing the Shaw Community how to eliminate their Shaw services. Such posts would probably be better received here, anyway.

You can't just yet. It's in 'beta' testing and some of the members here were invited to participate in the testing.

@audacity – As I mentioned in a previous post, we're totally open to conversations about Shaw's products and services and we won’t keep only positive posts in the Shaw Community. But while we want conversations to be open, it doesn't mean moderation won't happen, particularly with conversations that are inappropriate for this platform. Your post was actually flagged by another member, and we agreed that a how-to about how to circumvent regulations and find loopholes in getting content you’re not supposed to get is not appropriate for the Shaw Community.

Like tux said, Digital Home is probably the best place for this kind of how-to guide.

@1234greg - Thanks for the interest Greg, we hope to have the Shaw Community ready for public launch in the not too distant future.

Cheers.

Exclamation Off-topic posts removed

This is not the appropriate venue to discuss the legality of virtual private networks, geoblocking or other means to mask/alter your IP address. Nor is this the correct venue to discuss the ramifications of using said services.
A whole bunch of posts have been removed.
Only productive discussion about the pros and cons of Shaw's community forum will be welcome here.
In future, off-topic posts will be deleted without warning. Formal notifications and infractions will be issued where appropriate.

Default Possible use of real names in email notifications of Direct Messages

For those of you already using the Community, you may want to be aware that your real (probably as entered in your Profile) first and last names might be used in notifications that other users receive if you send them a Direct Message. (You have to make them Friends first.)

I don't yet know if the Privacy settings in the user Profile affect this or not. You may want to adjust your Privacy settings anyway, just in case.

No, it is just by invitation only right now. Most of the people who are on it so far, about a hundred, are Shaw employees who will be participating and contributing from time to time. There were about 15 or so DHC members and some from other forums who were invited to participate in this initial 'beta' trial.

I know that participation/posting is by invitation only but I wonder whether viewing is as well.
