Default Rant about Swearing (on MuchMusic)

Okay, Watching much music, Hot tub time machine, if any of you have watched it, you would know that it has an f-bomb or s-bomb every 10 seconds ... so basically if the movied was edited for that, it would be no fun to watch .. so why put it on TV? Me and my mom were trying to watch it and half the time it was silent due to swearing so much ... why is it so heavily edited? its after 9pm, they have a viewer discretion is advised ... etc. ... this is honestly stupid because I see it all the time .. any thoughts guys and gals?

Even after 9pm there are plenty of kiddies watching. And MuchMusic covets it's young viewers, as does their advertisers. If mommy doesn't like the language, guess who isn't permitted to watch?

So then why put a movie on like that in the first place? If much music is suppose to be kid friendly, why put a movie that is meant for people over the age of 17? PLUS many familys do use the locks system on satellite and cable boxes ...

MuchMusic doesn't want to be a "locked channel" list...

It's obviously a compromise. The kids want to watch bad-ass movies, but the parent's don't want the language.

Does this suck if you're an adult viewer? Absolutely.

I believe movies should always be presented in their original form. Yet we find most stations editing for language, editing for time, or editing the print to 4:3 from it's original aspect ratio. It's been going on forever, and will likely continue to do so....

The 40 year old virgin was pretty unwatchable on Much Music a few years ago. I've stopped recording movies from that channel. Not worth the hassle.

I just don't understand, why waste the money to air a movie with that kind of content, when your suppose to be a family friendly channel .. like honestly, why not air a PG movie ... with mild language? Not a R movie with heavy sexual content .. just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

The other side of the coin might be: Why make movies with so much potty mouth language in the first place? Is the story line so bad that it needs #$$%&** every 10 seconds to use your time frame.

I liked the British series LOVEJOY years ago on A&E when that was a decent channel, not the current Storage Locker Wars it is today. Then the lead actor on Lovejoy was on Deadwood a few years ago. Every 10th word was F this and F that. It became embarrassing to listen to and usually I was watching alone downstairs and my wife was watching other channels upstairs. I lost much respect for that actor.

The most shocking thing in your post or rant was that you were watching with your mom. WOW!

Im 17 and my mom is 37, so we can both enjoy the movie, swearing doesn't bother my mom, and the movie is good, swearing is what the character does, its part of his humor/personality. You can't really appreciate the actors work when it is edited out every 15-30 seconds ... you can show bare breasts on TV, (WHICH THEY DID BTW) but yet you can't swear ... makes a lot of sense

After growing up watching TVA/SRC/TQ/TQS, I found it silly the first time I caught an heavily censored movie at 11 pm (or even passed midnight) on CFCF (CTV)... At first I thought it was some audio glitch.

I haven't gotten the impression for a while that MuchMusic is a "family friendly" channel. It's aimed at teens, and they only censor it because with the type of channel it is they don't have much of a choice.

If they aired actual family stuff, their target audience wouldn't be watching.

As for watching movies on TV... honestly for me it's TMN or channels like it that don't mangle the movies or bust. I hear Hollywood Suite is good that way, but it's not available here. I can't stand watching movies that are cut, censored, and filled up with commercials.

Imagine if they had censored Popa on "La P'tite Vie".

and during some of the scenes that had lots of swearing in them they had a new audio recording of the actors that was missing some background sounds and was totally out of sync with there mouths

@Tridus How is it not family friendly? Sure they play shows that are geared to Teens and they play shows that are geared to pre-teens if you haven't noticed, many girls that are even younger then 10 years old, still watch this stuff that they totally don't even understand, like 1 girl 5 gays on MTV as an example. Thats just today's society

So funny how Much Music has changed over the years... back in the 80's they didn't want to play Aerosmith's - Love In An Elevator

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3Yrhv33Zb8

The video was banned from Much Music
