in the 800s, and the 1000s there seems to be doubles of every channel, why is this and is there a difference between them

Because the 1000 are ythe new placements for the HD channels and not all the Hd channels are in the 1000.If I recall and I could be mistaken that some receivers had issue with thec 1000's. But from my understaning the 800's will eventyually be dropped. As to what th800's wil eventually bveome I haveno idea only time wil tell.

When Bell first introduced HD channels they all were found in the 800's. Time passes and they realize that they are going to have more than 100 HD channels, so they need to move and separate them into the 1000's, 1100's, 1200's, 1300's and 1400's. To keep the older customers (who are used to finding their favourite HD channels in the 800's) happy, Bell decides to just keep the 800's the way they are and map the HD channels to both number locations. A channel can be mapped to any number of locations without using up extra bandwidth.
I don't believe the 800's will ever be dropped by Bell because there would be too many complaints (I know I would complain), and it doesn't use up anymore bandwidth, so why rock the boat? |

The 800's will be dropped some time this year. The original HD channels were all placed in the 800s, but as MCIBUS said, they will have more than 100 soon. Some older HD receivers are not capable of channels above 1000. These older recievers are currently being swapped out by Bell for new HD receivers. Once the swap is complete, the 800s will be deleted from the system.

@jumpy27 bell had a huge channel realignment a few years ago ... so imagine how many people complained then? And the 1000's have been around for maybe a year or two now, so im assuming people are getting use to them ... as the guy above me stated, the 800's will be removed after the receiver swap is finished.

The 1000's have been around a lot longer than a year. It might be getting closer to three in fact. Time to get rid of the 800's for sure.

Why get rid of the 800's when it takes no more bandwidth to use them? I find them much more convenient than trying to find the channel I want in the 1000-1400 range.
Which older HD receivers were not capable of channels above 1000? And I was the one that said they were going to have over 100 HD channels, not MCIBUS. |

Maybe they have other plans for the 800-899 range.

Easiest explanation for removing the 800s is consistency, also, causes less confusion in regards to PVR. Especially if you set VuPass timers.

@jumpy27: I'll tell you why I'd like to see the 800's gone. Have you ever done a search for a program and had returned what seemed to be lots of choices at dozens of times only to discover that one of those choices was the SD channel, another was the HD channel in the 800's, yet another was the HD channel in the 1000's and last but not least one was the SD channel with descriptive video? Getting rid of the 800's would get rid of some of that clutter and make it a bit easier to go through a long list.

I wonder how many people were like me. Used to the 800's and didn't bother looking for stuff in the 1000's, and then out of curiosity, went over there and found a whole whack more channels than I thought were in HD LOL. That was probably at least 2 years ago. I don't even go to the 800's now, but my wife still does.

I just block the 800s out of my guide with the channel lock function. Same as all the PPV and crappy channels.

I've said this before but I really like the way Dishnetwork maps the channels. The SD and HD channel is still the same number in the guide. If I just want the HD channels I don't have to seach somewhere else for it. Channel 300 is HBO sd and hd unlike on Bell where TSN is channel 400 in sd and 1400 in HD.
