Can't record particular series (no option to) - Canadian TV, Computing and Home Theatre Forums

I've got a 3400 and have noticed this a couple of times -- with some shows, I'm not able to set up a series recording. There's just no option to do so for some reason. In this case, the show is on Oasis HD, and is called 'Volcanic Odysseys'. As of yesterday, there were 7 instances of the show listed in the guide, though they all had the same description. I can record the individual shows but can't set up the series to record. Any ideas why not? I wondered whether it was because the description is the same in each case, but there are lots of other shows that don't have new descriptions for each episode, and I've successfully set up recordings for them.

I remember having a similar issue way back so my memory is not 100% but I think the issue turned out to be that I already had a series recording of the show. I didn't realize the series recording was there because it wasn't recording any episodes due to the guide showing as repeats and record option was for first run. That may not be the issue in your case but it might be worth a look at your list of series recordings to see if it is there.

I believe this is an issue with the guide data that is submitted by the broadcaster and used by Shaw. There is some piece of information missing that indicates it can be setup as a series recording.

I used to work for Shaw and we had this issue come up with quite a few Ethnic channels. I don't know that the issue was ever resolved.

I think you must be right, Nixxo. A couple of the episodes have recorded now, and they're listed separately in the recordings (that is, not in a folder as a series would be), so I guess Oasis didn't do what it takes to tag them as related to each other.
