Another thing is if you subscribe to Movie Central, if you have the newer MPEG4 box you can go into the movie central on demand section under video on demand and select Movie Central's movies/t.v. series in HD. The older 3416 box only allows you to watch those in Standard definition.

And yes, that's the issue here as well - can't watch NatGeo Wild HD on the old box, sound only. Though there is a standard definition version of it on channel 178 which we can get on the old 3416 box - better than nothing.

Unfortunately, I suspect though situations like these (needing a mpeg 4 capable box) will become more common as they add channels or services. Can't believe the PVR went from $198 to $349. I think Shaw is continually changing their business strategy - sometimes they complete on price, other times services. Issue a certain plan and features, take features away, etc.

I bought an MPEG-4 box essentially to get Sportsnet World HD. I agree we're going to see more and more channels coming in that format. This is only the beginning.

The public broadcasting channel BVN for Dutch and Flemish speaking people is available on satellite SES-1, for reception in our region, and the CRTC has given permission for this channel to be carried on Canadian cable systems. Here is the Dutch language website of this channel: http://www.bvn.nl/.
More English information about this channel is on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BVN .
Since there are a number of channels from various foreign broadcasters available on Shawn cable and Dutch speaking immigrants make up a fairly large segment of our population, I am wondering if this channel can also be added to Shaw’s multicultural line-up on cable.

Default Cartoon Network Canada

Shaw Champ - This channel launches July 4. Any word on whether Shaw will carry it? It's owned 50% by Corus (a shaw company) so I'm guessing yes, but honestly, there is ZERO information out there on carriage for this channel.

@hansapelle thanks for the information. I will pass it along for the powers to be to look at. My wife's side of the family is all Dutch

@johnnucleo unfortunately there is no word yet for Shaw sorry. It seems like they are deferring queries to the providers themselves. I would recommend keeping tabs on their twitter feed https://twitter.com/#!/CartoonCAN

Shaw Champ - You guys should definitely get some Portuguese channels in the line up also, like RTP and Sport TV America (MTS offers this one) and possibly SIC Noticias.

I'm going to assume we'll see it sooner or later and it is so much more likely than Hollywood Suite.

The word I heard was the content was too similar to that of channels Shaw already owns and carries so they will not be offering FX. I, for one, would very much like to have the option to subscribe to FX so maybe if enough people ask for it, Shaw will change their mind?
