So if Shaw Direct/Cable launches it on July 4 we then should expect to see 21 channels appear, as to Bigoranget comment on the 3:1 rule?

Not going to happen on Shaw Direct. They have no satellite capacity left. Anik G1 is expected to come into operation near the end of 2012/early 2013. Until then Shaw Direct customers (Surprise, surprise) are SOL.

I can understand SHAW Direct being capacity limited, but SHAW cable should have more available bandwidth. I'm not exactly sure, but are they not at 860 MHZ, do they have SDV utilization? plus how about the analog tiers being downsized for extra bandwidth. Rogers seems to be able to add channels at will without capacity problems.

@thenewdc, Shaw doesn't use SDV. The process of moving the analog tiers to digital to free up bandwidth is taking much longer than expected and major cities are still incomplete. Some areas of Vancouver can't even get all the channels that Shaw has now.

So just so I understand, there is Teletoon, Teletoon Retro, does the same company which own them also own the new Cartoon Network Canada which is launching? And also who owns Nick? It seems abit over saturated in the cartoon market.

Teletoon also has the the French versions - here's the total list: TELETOON, Télétoon, TELETOON Retro, Télétoon Rétro and Cartoon Network.

Corus owns Treehouse, Nick and YTV.

Do some of those channels even count as being Shaw-owned since they are actually owned by Corus and technically not Shaw? I think your ratio counts may be off because of this. Either way there are other channels Shaw could, and probably should, add to their lineup to help out the ratio.

Yes they do. Shaw Communications owns the company. However, they are both independent companies. Hard question. But Corus is owned by Shaw and Shaw Media is the media division of Shaw Communications made from assets of Canwest even though Shaw also owns Corus which is a separate company. So pretty much Shaw acquired the assets of Canwest and turned it into a subsidiary of Shaw and Corus which is owned by Shaw is a separate publicly traded conglomerate.

It's a separate company, but its still owned by a person in the Shaw family. According to the CRTC's legislation, they're considered to be "related"; the specific term the rule says.

Getting tired of Corus, they act like they don't know what providers will be carrying their own channel Cartoon Network. They tell people to contact their service providers, why the big secret, why not just tell people instead of playing dumb?
