Default Question about Cell Carrier Practices.

My Rogers Contract ends today, and I was told by a Rogers that I would be changed for an additional 30 days after I port my number over to Mobilicity.

The Rogers rep told me that this is standard practice with all carriers. Is this correct or is Rogers just trying to rip me off AGAIN.

They're trying to rip you off again, but they're right in it's standard practice - they all love you rip you off

Only the new guys are honest in that respect. If you have a wind or mobilicity line and cancel on day 30, you're not charged an extra month. You've paid up and they end the service before new charges incur.

The big guys have you hooked in for 3(?) years and hope you'll forget that you've actually prepaid for the month you're using since the start (i.e. when you pay a bill today, it's for the next month's base service, plus any additional fees you incurred over the last month).
So the extra 30 days is nothing but a gouge.

^^^^
My bill for Rogers clearly shows the period that's being paid for. How soon before the contract end did wagnerdepower arrange for cancelling the service and start with Mobilicity?

My contract ends today. I'm heading up to the Mobilicity office today after work.

The terms of service for your provider outline the charges at various times in the contract. They are outlined on their website. Many providers require a certain notification period.

Are you porting out your Rogers number to Mobilicity? If yes, Rogers will charge you 30 days of service that Rogers did not provide. File a complaint with CCTS online and get the refund.

CCTS will forward your complaint to Rogers. Rogers will call you. Stand on your ground and want the refund.

You have to give 30 days of notice to cancel, you agreed to that when you signed up. Give the thirty days notice, on day 29 port your number. Then you'll only pay for one day of service that you didn't use.

^ You cannot port your number out if you give Rogers 30 days cancellation notice.

As far as I know only Rogers/Fido engages in this practice, and if you pursue them they will refund it, eventually. No matter when you attempt to port, Rogers will try and bill you for an extra 30 days, which I believe is in violation of the CRTC porting rules. As mentioned, file a complaint with the CCTS.

Thanks for the input. I never got around to doing the switch last night, but I've discovered that Mobilicity is doing a break free weekend on June 23-24, offering $200 credit for porting my number. Everything is going to balance out. I think I can stand dealing with Rogers for a few more days.

I did find the 30 day clause in their 23 page Terms of Service.

Eight years with Fido, it felt like I was told "Don't let the door hit you on the way out!"

I had specifically gone to store to ask a fido employee how to leave. He never suggested I should give notice. I did hear him say (to other customers)over and over about how bad Windmobile has a bad connection. To which I am still trying to figure out what he meant, I am with Wind now.

Anyways wanted to add, its not only monthly bill I was charged for but Also for Voicemail, text messages and Internet as I had that on my account at time of transfer.

I will Never Ever Recommend to Fido to anyone. They are immoral.

Rogers owns them, hence the reason for how bad they are
