My first revelation; Oh no, not another remote!

Really? Shaw needs a new remote that has INPUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and this one does

Question is will I get one free? Can I swap the old one for the new one?

They swapped out my old Pace remote free of charge when they got the new back lit models.

So I'd assume yes to both questions in this case as well.

It just occurred to me that my grandmother has a 3200. While for my own use I look forward to the new guide, holy moly this will not go down well on her end. She still misses good old channel 17 (which in our area was the analogue service scrolling channel listings page).

Which brings up a bigger question about the logistics of this. If it's supposedly already up and running for some customers in Red Deer, how exactly were they prepared for the switch? Did they just turn on their TV one day and pop there was the new pretty guide? What kind of lead-time will people be given? Will there be pamphlets? I think there'd better be a pamphlet.

I know there's a website with the info about the change and a couple of pdfs like the one I posted already and a QRG. I know exactly what you mean. I Just sent a new computer with Windows 7 to my 81 year old step father and have to go out to Vancouver Island in a week or so to see how he is 'adapting' to it. These guide changes and even the fact they have HD versions of the channels they have always watched hasn't completely been adopted by them yet and they aren't getting any younger.

Thumbs down

It's a shame that I'd have to go the Gateway route or go backwards to a plain 3200 HD box to get a 21st century guide. Heck, Telus has a pretty sharp looking guide and menu. What's Shaw's excuse?

I believe Shaw has been working on a solution of their own but since they have to get it to work across multiple platforms, and those platforms keep evolving, it is taking longer than anyone expected to deliver. This excuse is just speculation on my part but there is supposed to be a guide being developed by Shaw but I did hear that quite a while back now.

In any event, any guide is only as accurate as the information received from the channels/networks. For recording, I still have old PVR's so as long as Showcase and the like continue to give generic information to Shaw, it just won't matter to me what the guide looks like. I'll still end up with recordings I have to sort through and delete.

At the request of Shaw, I have removed the document at the link in my earlier post. They are still in the 'trial' phase and since things could still change, they have asked me to remove the document.

Hopefully it won't be long before the guide is fully public and we will be getting full access to it and the documents then.

Amen. If there was any way I could switch to Bell, it would be for this reason. Plus it keeps wanting to record SD versions of series I set up from the HD channel.

Question

Now there are some rumblings that Shaw is "working on one for the PVR models" (DCX3400?).

That sounds promising. Do you have any more info on these rumblings? A source perhaps?
