Default I have a package awaiting me at the post, however...

Hi,

So I finally got in the post my package...Well, actually I got one of those notices from canada post saying that I can pick up my package from the post. I had bought this as a gift for my friend, so when buying it, I put his name on it. On the back in red though, it says that 'one piece of photo id with the same address as the package' must be provided...The problem is, I'd like to pick up this package myself and give it to my friend as a surprise...And my only piece of photo id I have has my parents address on it & not my current one. What can I do to pick up my package? I have a bill from telus with my current address on it as proof that I'm living there...and also my T4 has my address on it also if this helps..? I'm really confused on what to do now to pick it up.:\
One of these I got in the mail...
Haha, sorry if this is the wrong section, just saw another canada post question here so I thought I'd post mine in this section as well...^_^
Thanks.

While putting someone's name that doesn't live at the same place you do may hamper things, your best bet would be to bring what you have. If you got an e-mail with the shipping information, bring that as well. Hopefully with enough documentation they may still let you get the package.

Bear in mind though that from Canada Post's perspective, the package isn't "yours" as it doesn't have your name on it. If they don't let you retrieve the package yourself, you may have to ruin the surprise and bring your friend in with his photo ID, then explain what happened again.

Best of luck, and hopefully you now see why putting your name on a package you are going to receive is important.

Have your friend with you when you go to the post office. When you're asked for ID, pretend you forgot it and ask your friend to provide his. He'll be surprised. And you can both have a good laugh about it afterwards.
