Default Airshow coming back to Hamilton in 2011/2012

From CWH Facebook page:

Quote:
In 2012, Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum will be celebrating it's 40th Anniversary with many special events planned including the return of an AIR SHOW to Hamilton! Yes, you read right and it will be a warbird show. Still in the early stages, one of the highlights will be a formation flight of heavy bombers - a B-29, B-24, B-17 and Lancaster. Additionally, many other warbirds are expected to participate including Me109, Me262, Fw190, Spitire, Swordfish, Hurricane, P-40, P-51, and Mosquito to name a few. More details to follow but be sure to keep Father's Day weekend 2012 open.

As it has been a few years since Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum has run an air show, it has also been decided to replace the 2011 Flyfest event with a mini-air show to work out the logistics bugs in preparation for the big 2012 Air Show. The featured act for 2011 will be Tora! Tora! Tora!

Awesome! I'll bring my dad, an RCAF B-25 Mitchell Bomber veteran - he'll be in his glory!

I went up on the B-25 this past summer. Took some nice photos and HD videos.

A Swordfish still flying? Although I guess that wood and fabric with an old tech ( even by 1940 standards) engine may be easier to keep flying than something with a more modern and more stressed airframe and engine.

I'd rather like to see a heritage airshow move up a few years. B47, B52, Vulcan ( I think there is still one flying) and even a B36 if the Confederate airforce has one.. and all the jet fighter/ fighter bombers of the '50s and '60s.
A flight of F4 Phantoms going supersonic over Hamilton harbour would be a sight worth going to Hamilton for.

London used to have that type of airshow but it hasn't existed for years.

Cool ! Might have to plan a trip to Ontario !

I have the Duxford museum and airshow in the UK on my "must do" list.

To me , the sight and sound of a Spitfire is pure heaven.

This Hamilton airshow looks good too..

^^^^
One nice thing about the Hamilton air show was that you could walk around* and even get into some of the planes. For example, I was able to walk through a C5A and get onto the bunk the tail boom operator, on a KC-135 tanker, lies on while refueling plaines. While some planes are available with the CNE airshow, they're up at Pearson airport, which is some distance from the CNE.

*BTW, on one occasion, a German fighter pilot chewed out some idiots who were smoking around his F4 Phantom. The whole area had lots of no smoking signs. There was also some fuel on the ground, under a B-52...

Default Restored B-17 "Liberty Belle" lost in crash

The Liberty Belle will not be making it to Hamilton, although two other B-17s ("Chuckie" and "Memphis Belle") are still expected to take part.

The completely restored WWII B-17 Flying Fortress bomber was en route from Aurora, IL over Oswego, IL when a pilot in a Texan (Harvard) chase plane reported flames shooting from the big bird's number two engine, at which the crew ditched successfully in a corn field but at the cost of the plane (see video):

Growing up I lived about 1 km south of the Mt Hope (aka Hamilton) airport. The Father's Day airshow was one of the highlights of the year. The used to often have the Snowbirds or Blue Angels and when those guys came roaring overhead they were so low you would swear they would knock out our TV antenna.
