I had problems with Toronto last week.

Frankly, I think the "just switch servers" is really bad advice. When you switch servers, your voicemail gets all screwed up.

Voip.ms definitely appears to be having issues in Toronto / Montreal so to keep customers they really need to give some more useful insight as to what is going on.

I really don't want to have to change servers and all the voicemail changes every week.

Hello

The "change servers" is not advice but diagnostic. If the issue tracker doesnt show any issues, then the servers are working properly.

We are aware that sometimes local or regional internet routing could affect the connection to a specific server, that is why we offer the choice of 10+ servers.

In a given case where a customer constantly reports issues with a server, and we can not duplicate, its always best as a diagnostic to see if the issue happens too with other server, because that way we would know it is not related to a specific server.

Thank you

Just to inform everybodies !

As recommended by voip.ms tech guy, I've set my DTMF Tx Method to AVT (on voip.ms and on my linksys) and it seems to solve the beep sound and the control of my voicemail.

I'm now running in one of the problems Funkytown has been having: "answer the line but the called party cannot hear for 4 seconds at the start of the call"

Not always, but it has happened a few times in the past three weeks or so. Just happened once again today. I didn't time that it was 4 seconds, but it's roughly that.

I was on the montreal server before and switched to the chicago server a few days ago to see if it helps. Same issue with both.

I'm still getting this too at least two or three times a day at the store. Most of our issues started around January 2011, so it's been well over a year now. Since VoIP.ms isn't doing anything about it and expects us spend our time running tests to trigger these issues we've given up complaining to VoIP.ms about it. We are constantly apologizing to our customers for the problems.

Mind you, lately our phones have been working better because we aren't seeing the lines disconnect 2 seconds after we answer. That is by far a worse issue than the voice delay upon answer. I sure hope now that I've said this I don't jinx myself.

The past couple of days Montreal1 and 2 pings have been fluctuating between good and bad. We switched servers this morning due to high latency. It's definitely a juggling act keeping our service somewhat stable. We do use a different VoIP company that's a bit more expensive but we don't have any of these issues at all. The problem is our DIDs cannot be ported at this time to the alternate company. That's why we are still on this train track with VoIP.ms.

I know working with my ISP to figure out issues with montreal2.voip.ms all signs pointed to latency, jitter and dropped packet issues on iweb's routers, which is how montreal2.voip.ms connects to the rest of the net.

Hi, i am wondering if anyone has a suggestion for my problem, sometimes when i get an incoming call i pick up the phone and its just dead air, sometimes when i hang it up it rings again and i can answer it and talk to the caller. Also i had a similar problem with an outgoing call from my home to me, the phone rang i picked it up and nothing, i hung up and it rang again and i could answer it.

Im using a spa112 with the dial plan and settings from the voip.ms wiki.

This has been happening a lot lately. It's an issue on the VoIP.ms end. On Friday we had this issue twice.

2012-06-22 09:43:34 "20-902542xxxx" <902542xxxx> 902468xxxx Dial 902 ANSWERED 00:06 00:01
2012-06-22 09:43:59 "20-902542xxxx" <902542xxxx> 902468xxxx Dial 902 ANSWERED 01:38 01:30

This was one of the calls from the asterisk call log. We answered, the line disconnected then we hung up and it rang again. We asked the caller if they re-dialed our number and they said, "No, it just rang several times then you answered". It's been happening on and off for a long time now.

Sometimes I also get the ring twice issue. I don't know if it's because of Asterisk or not. I have a ring group configured with my Asterisk and my ATA.

I got the ring twice issue also. I am using Spa112. I called my cell from home line and hang up the call on my cell right away without answering and got a second call on my cell from my home line in 1 min.

Guys, just wondering how you set up VoIP.ms to receive fax. Here is what I currently have

1. ATA is Cisco Linksys PAP2T. I understand this is not the best ATA for fax but I will have to live with this for now until I am ready to give it to my dad and will upgrade to another ATA that supports T38

2. Brother All-in-One Wireless Inkjet MFC-J425W. I set it up and everything is working fine e.g. scanning, printing, copying

3. I am able to send fax from home to my office so sending fax is not an issue

4. Right now I have Line 1 on the ATA hooked up to a phone and Line 2 on the ATA hooked up to the Brother printer.

When somebody calls us and no1 is available to pick up the phone, the voice mail will kick in (I set up voice mail and associate it to Line 1).

It could be somebody sending a fax though but the printer never kicks in.

If I hook up Line 1 to the printer then I am able to receive fax at home but nobody can leave a voice mail

Do I have to live with this, guys? Or is there a workaround that I am not aware of? thanks

Line 1 and Line 2 of your ATA will only both ring if you have them both registered. If you are only registering line 1, then line 2 isn't going to work.

If line 2 is registered then you need to set up a ring group on your VoIP.ms account to ring both accounts simultaneously.

Thank you funky. What do you think about ordering a separate DID and use that for fax and leave the main DID for phone and voice mail?

Right now I set up for the voice mail to kick in after 4 rings on the main account. I don't know what will happen when I set up the ring group on my VoIP.ms account. How do I know which one will kick in first, the fax or the voice mail?

I don't receive fax that often, this is purely a test to ensure everything is working well and I would hate to miss out on important voice mails. Or will the voice mail AND the fax kick in at the same time and I won't miss anything?

If your fax answers at the 5th ring, then the voicemail would get the call first. You should be able to adjust the fax rings. You can definitely adjust the seconds before voicemail picks up. If the fax answers first, that almost defeats the point of voicemail. You'd still get voicemail if your line was ever busy or your call waiting was not answered. Otherwise the fax would always get the call.

Since there's no way to know if the call coming in is a fax or voice call, the two DIDs is the best answer for your issue. That way you won't have fax calls coming in on your voice line. You'll just need to create a sub-account under voip.ms and register your line 2 to the sub-account. Then go to the MANAGE DIDs section and tell the fax line to ring on your sub-account . Register your sub-account on line 2 of your ATA.

just curious what firmware version those of you with PAP2T's are running.

I have 3.1.15(LS) but I see there's a 5.X version on the Cisco site.
