CM4228HD was no go, I couldn't find a way to split it up. So I ordered DB4E and to my surprised I got more channel than the CM4228HD. I'm able to pull all channels except for 17-1,2,3. Because of my splitter and the dropamp, some channels does go in and out so I haven't fine tune the pointing yet. Hopefully it will improve when I mount it in the attic.

ZzRicezZ,
Your TV Fool: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...073b5943b66dd2 Before you close up your attic try your distribution amplifier in the attic by temporarily running an extension cord to your attic and connecting the distribution amplifier near the antenna. Then check your reception (channel count and frequency of drop-outs) for a day or two. My prediction is that it will confirm to you that it will be worth purchasing a pre-amp (probably a Winegard 269) and getting rid of the distribution amp that you have now. Good luck! I'm happy with your antenna choice (DB4e). When looking at the stations that you care about on the TV Fool report I see that many of them are in the pink section with scores of less than +10dB. You will lose signal due to the attic installation. So if you don't have a pre-amp right at the antenna, you can be guaranteed to experience frequent drop-outs. A pre-amp will lock-in whatever signal your antenna catches in the attic. You should take note that TV stations in the pink section of a TV Fool indicate that an outdoor rooftop antenna is likely necessary to get good reception. If you're determined to stay in your attic, then you can't afford any more short-cuts (ie distribution amplifier). In your case, I think the pre-amp will be very key to minimizing drop-outs in your case, as opposed to pulling-in channels that you're currently not getting. Drop-outs will be very annoying for you because with DTV, if you're exeriencing drop-outs you know you're very close to being able to avoid drop-outs by having an optimum antenna setup. Please serously consider a pre-amp.

Yup forsure I will get a pre-amp because I don't plan on putting a power outlet in the attic.

i have the DB4E in the attic, I haven't run the cable down to the basement yet, but from the temporary cable running to my bedroom and living room with out the drop amp. I tried adding the drop amp but I lost all channels and I couldn't figure it out because it was the same setup as if it was on the second floor window. I was able to pickup all of the channels except for
26-1,26-2,26-3, 51-1,51-2,51-3 with this attic mount, i got a new channel 36-1 and I was able to pull in 3-1. but it is not on the TV Fool list? I think it is CTV from London, I need to play around with aiming to get it back. After mounting the antenna I lost the signal. |

3.1 is CKVR from Barrie on real channel 10. It is CTVtwo. It's good if you get it but not essential because it will be coming to Hamilton too and you'll probably get a second signal for that channel on channel 35. The transmitter will turn on sometime later this year. But if 3.1 is solid for you then that is great.
I still think you will need a Winegard 269 pre-amp to get best results.

Pretty sure he is referring to WNYB-DT, which broadcasts from Jamestown, NY on RF26 and has PSIP of 26.
26.1 is TCT-SD local Buffalo feed 26.2 is TCT-HD national feed 26.3 is TCT-Kids 26.4 is TCT La Fuente spanish programming

Hello,
Here is my TV fool report http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...9900ebac6f4d69 I'm in stouffville, bought a DB4e and have it proped up (temporary) on a desk by a first floor window. The cable is run to an hd homerun in the same room(temporary). So far i've received all the canadian ch's except omni 2. citytv and ctv comes and goes. Ive got CBS 4.1, pbs 17.1, wnlo 23.1 and wnyo 49.1. Is it weird that i can get couple US stn's and some (closer) cad stn's dont come in? I'm planning on an attic install. I have a conduit that runs from the attic to the bsmt so i plan on running about 20 feet of rg6 down to the bsmt where the hd homerun will be installed. Would an amp be worthwhile? and if so would the Winegard 269 do or would i need the channel master 7778? In regards to whats around me.. when i first moved in two years ago on a clear day I could see the CN tower from my upstairs window. Now there is 3 houses diagonaly in front (im a corner lot) that block the CN tower. From my roof you can still see it easily. Thanks for any advice |

I'm in Stouffville too, and used to have my 4221 in my attic for a number of years. The move to the roof, with the amp and rotor, was primarily for dxing.
With a DB4e, I would think you should be OK without an amp, especially since you only list one device being on the line.

I had an installer come by yesterday and he did a scan from my roof and said that the powerlines to the south of my house are interfering with the signals so the chance of getting any channels is very poor. He didn't end up doing the install so i'm going to attempt it myself (even if I only get a few channels).
Here's my TVfool report: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...99006503319fdc What antenna do you guys recommend I get? I was going to buy the DB4e. |

Hi Ripcurl,
The DB-4e is a really good antenna. I don't think the power lines will interfere, I've installed other locations with major power lines 1/2 km away and didn't interfere a bit. Your problem is you are on low ground. Markham can be great if you're on high ground, but there is a valley near you so you don't have enough height. I ran a tvfool report for 407 & mcCowan, @ 30ft and it didn't look good. Tripod above your roof peak might work, but the only other thing that would help is a tall tower. You'll get Toronto stations and some buffalo, but maybe not all. Good Luck!
