Plenty booming in tonight, although the signals are unstable to say the least.
So far I've picked up: 03.1 WKYC Cleveland 03.2 WXPLUS Cleveland 05.1 WEWS Cleveland 05.2 WEWSLYN Cleveland 08.1 WROC Rochester 08.2 Bounce Rochester 10.1 CFPL London 12.1 WICU Erie 12.2 WBEP Erie 12.3 WSEE Erie 21.1 WXXI Rochester 21.2 WXXI-W Rochester 21.3 WXXI-C Rochester 24.1 WJET Erie 31.1 CITY Woodstock 54.1 WQLN-HD Erie 54.2 WQLN-S1 Erie 54.3 WQLN-S2 Erie 55.1 WBNX-HD Cleveland 55.2 WBNX-SD Cleveland 55.3 THIS TV Cleveland 61.1 WQHS Cleveland 66.1 WFXP Erie No sign of ION tonight. These were picked up with my C2V, from a tenth floor west facing balcony in midtown Toronto. The C2V is mounted on a lamp pole, and can easily be repositioned for optimum reception. So far, nothing new. It remains to be seen if the C2V can outperform the Terk HDTVi I got such good results with last year. |

First time reception from Utica for this year. Got WKTV 2.1 and 2.2 for a few minutes. I see very little of Utica usually, as I'm west facing. Apart from that, only getting WQLN 54.1, 54.2, 54.3 from Erie and CITY 31.1 from Woodstock. Its early yet - maybe more will come in a bit later in the evening.

Great catches Goldielover! Glad you got to see some Utica! WKTV is one of my faves! (And I'm slightly jealous of your WICU reception....haven't seen anything from Erie except WQLN this year!)
Earlier tonight tropo was a FIREBALL of signals! Between 8-10pm I was getting almost ALL Rochester stations (RF10 WHEC, RF13 WHAM, RF16 WXXI, RF28 WUHF, RF45 WROC!) W42CO seems to have a problem, as there was plenty of signal, but it didn't decode. Also got Utica's WKTV (RF29) and both WSTM (RF24) and WSYR (RF17) from Syracuse. The surprise was getting several minutes of Watertown's WWTI (RF21) for the first time this year! Also got some WQLN (RF50) from Erie! Loving the heat and the wave of tropo that came along with it |

Garth, nice catch on the Watertown station!! I've never had so much as a sniff of anything from there. WQLN of course is a real flame thrower - I count that one almost as a summer regular. I didn't find anything too outstanding last night - just a few Erie stations and of course CITY Woodstock. Ran a scan this morning, and things are actually way better than late last night. Picked up some stuff from Syracuse and Rochester as well as ION. Nothing from Cleveland, though.
03.1 WSTM Syracuse 03.2 WSTQ Syracuse 03.3 CNY Syracuse 08.1 WROC-HD Rochester 08.2 Bounce Rochester 09.1 WSYR-HD Syracuse 09.2 WSYR-2 Syracuse 12.1 WICU-HD Erie 12.2 WBEP Erie 12.3 WSEE-SD Erie 31.1 CITY Woodstock 51.1 ION Batavia 51.2 qubo Batavia 51.3 IONLife Batavia 54.1 WQLN-HD Erie 54.2 WQLN-S1 Erie 54.3 WQLN-S3 Erie I think my CM7000 (I still have an ancient television) decodes things a bit weird. According to my records, I've had WSEE come through on 12.3, 24.2 and 35.1. Same with WBEP - I've had that one on 12.2 and 35.2. It still insists on decoding WSYR-HD on 9.1, knocking out CFTO. And for a little while it was decoding CITY twice - once on 44.1 and again on 57.1. One day I will upgrade to a more modern television, but for now this works. If I want to watch a movie in high definition, I'm more likely to use the computer monitor anyways. I heard they were forecasting a hot summer this year. Hopefully that will mean lots of good catches for us. |

Interesting night tonight.
I'm scanning in over 50 channels (including subs). Most interesting one is an analog rf36. The picture is hard to make out. But the audio is good. It's some sort of home shopping channel. I wonder if it could be either a real home shopping channels or one of those religious channels that has home shopping type shows. Anyway, the channel had people with American accents that are often heard on religious channels. Could it be WHSH from Rochester?

Hmm, all I got was a total of 38, and nothing unusual. Except for WQLN Erie and CITY Woodstock, they were all from the east. I usually do better when the tropo is strong from the west. Haven't seen too much of Cleveland for a week or so.
Edit: Spoke too soon. Tropo at noon today was far better than the tropo at midnight last night. 08.1 WROC Rochester 08.2 Bounce Rochester 09.1 WSYR-HD Syracuse 09.2 WSYR Syracuse 12.1 WICU Erie 12.2 WBEP Erie 12.3 WSEE Erie 21.1 WXXI-HD Rochester 21.2 WXXI-W Rochester 21.3 WXXI-C Rochester 31.1 CITY Woodstock 51.1 ION Batavia 51.2 qubo Batavia 51.3 IONLife Batavia 54.1 WQLN-HD Erie 54.2 WQLN-S1 Erie 54.3 WQLN-S2 Erie 66.1 WFXP Erie 67.1 WBBZ-DT Buffalo 67.2 THISTV Buffalo 67.3 METV Buffalo 67.4 Daystar Buffalo WBBZ and subchannels is a new catch for me. It was garbled and not watchable, but this is the first time I've even seen it come up on my channel list. Caught it with the Antennas Direct C2V on the balcony. I face west, but I had the C2V (which is portable) facing south and just west enough to clear the concrete balcony partition. The rest are more or less usual catches, and still no sign of Cleveland or other locations further south west than Erie. |

HWP, I would say it's definitely WHSH you caught! Even after CITS went digital, I've seen WHSH come in fuzzily at my location! BTW, have you been able to catch WBGT-CA on RF46? They seem to be ultra low powered...even when I'm getting everything from Rochester strong, it doesn't even blink!
Goldielover, it has been a pretty hot Sunday! Even Rochester's WHEC on RF10 was very strong for a couple of hours! So far today I've gotten: Rochester, NY - WHEC (RF10), WHAM (RF13), WXXI (RF16), WUHF (RF28), W42CO (RF42) and WROC (RF45) Syracuse, NY - WSTM (RF24), and WSYR (RF17) Some stations are already out and it looks like a storm may be coming in, but I'm gonna keep tracking them! Seen lots of wonderful wacky programming between late Saturday and mid-afternoon today! |

Well, another first this evening. Picked up 35.1 CFTO-54 from Peterborough. Wasn't even aiming anywhere that direction as I face west, either. In fact, I had the C2V aiming west and slightly to the north to see if I could snag anything from the Kitchener area other than 28.1 TVO which is a regular for me. Apart from that, mainly a couple of Rochester stations (8.1 WROC, 8.2 Bounce, 21.1 WXXI-HD, 21.2 WXXI-W and 23.1 WXXI-C), 31.1 CITY Woodstock, 51.1 ION and subchannels from Batavia and 54.1 WQLN and subchannels from Erie. Still no Cleveland.
Everything is a bit unstable tonight, though. The tropo channels are fading in and out every few minutes - not on for hours like they are sometimes, especially WQLN. WUTV 29.1 has been playing up, too. Even although it is usually the weakest of my Buffalo stations, it is usually pretty solid with the C2V on the balcony. And OMNI 1 on 47.1 is being more persnickety than usual. That's the weakest of the Tower stations for me. Garth, I envy you WHEC, WHAM and WUHF. Checking back on my records shows the usual ones for me out of Rochester are WROC, WXXI and their subchannels. |

Last night was HOT again! Was surprised to see all Rochesters pop up again, plus the 1st appearance of WPSU in 2012! Here's what came in!
Rochester, NY - WHEC (RF10), WHAM (RF13), WXXI (RF16), WUHF (RF28), W42CO (RF42) and WROC (RF45) Syracuse, NY - WSTM (RF24) Utica, NY - WKTV (RF29) Clearfield, PA - WPSU (RF15) [Was glad to get this one, since it'll probably be impossible to DX when CHCH moves there...] WPSU and WSTM faded out early, but WKTV stayed in through 5:30am and most of the Rochesters were in till 7am-ish! |

You guys are making me jealous!
And trends of what the best times to check for tropo are? I've also been reading the Hepburn forecasts but am having a hard time putting them into practice. For instance, one time I checked when there was a big green spot over the western half of Lake Ontario, and I couldn't even haul in WPXJ which is nearly 24x7 for me from March to October. Meanwhile the Rochester/Erie stations have appeared when Hepburn shows grey or purple.

Rats - didn't bother to check last night. Sounds like I should have. Nothing tonight - just the usual 24 channels. Oh well, shouldn't complain too much, I guess. I've already had two firsts this week.
El Gran Chico, lately I've been getting my best results around noon. That won't last. Once the summer really kicks in I usually get better results late at night. I take the Hepburn forecasts with a huge pinch of salt. Sometimes they're accurate, other times they're not. My antenna is about 90 feet high, which helps enormously with reception. I face west, but south would be much better. |

Posts about the C2V antenna used on a Toronto balcony have been moved in order to help other Toronto members better and to keep this present thread clear for DXing, Tropo, and Atypical reception info.
The moved posts now start at Post #2351 of the ON - City of Toronto Metro Area <OUTDOOR Antennas Only> - OTA thread. cheers
