Default Spanish SIM card availability

Has anyone travelled to Spain, with an unlocked multi-band GSM cell phone, and managed to buy a SIM card for local use? Any good choices of providers; this is for a 4-month stayover. Thanks!

Default Spanish Sim Card

My daughter has been in Spain since January 2012. They have a data plan there for 8 Euros a month. If you want phone also it is another 2 Euros. I know unbelievable. I can email her and get more info for if you want.

Default Spanish Sim Card

She used Yoigo and some of her friends used Orange. Just do a google.
She bought the Yoigo as soon as she arrived there.

Many international airports actually have Wifi shops in the arrivals area of the airport. This was the case when I went to New Zealand last fall - both Telecom NZ and Vodafone NZ had shops right there and I got a SIM card for my unlocked cheapo cell phone and a 3G microSIM for my iPad.

And as grambo mentioned you can get really cheap plans in Europe as well as really cheap phones so even if your phone doesn't work it doesn't cost too much to get a new one.

I had a good experience with Yoigo way back in 2008 mostly in Barcelona. Just picked up a SIM at a local shop near my hotel.

If you text alot and have a smartphone, in Europe, using Whatsapp is the way to go, since the data plans tend to be inexpensive compared to SMS texting plans.
