My 9242 started doing something similar. Then went to a perpetual reboot.

I pulled the top case off, and blew it out with the air hose (it was really dusty), and then made sure all the cords were plugged in solid.

It's been fine for a couple months with no repeat of that.

Well I took the big leap and installed a 9400 hard drive. Didn't work but changed the way it tried to boot. I then blew everything out, especially around the fan and hard drive. Re plugged in the original hard drive and now all is well. Dirty contacts?
Thanks for your help.

Default Skip to Live issue

My 9242 is starting to show signs of the skip to live issue really bad. Have noticed that it is usually only when we are recording a HD program and watching it from the begining while it is till recording the show. It wont let me rewind while doing this style playback either. Once its done recording it is fine. Anyone have any suggestions on this issue. I would also like to know if there is any 9242 left for warranty replacements or am I going to get a 9241 and a 5900.

If you have the warranty then you will be OK.there are replacements.

If you buy a second hand receiver will the warranty cover it?
There's lots of fine print.
Also read in another thread here about a tech fee.

My advice for people with any of the Dual Tuner HDPVR's has always been to invest in "Dish Care" if you are in a Province where it is available. It is well worth the $7 per month for the peace of mind.

Only time a 'Tech Fee' is implemented is for installation of a rented receiver, pretty sure they do not charge for a replacement if the old one fails, again, if it is a rental.

Was thinking of getting a second hand HD PVR and adding the dishcare plan in case I have problems with it. Right now with single tuner receivers I find it is not worth it IMHO.

Just reticent at this point about the PVR and dishcare plan as Bell might wiggle out if something should go wrong with the PVR.

Some people here have had very good experiences when resolving issues with Bell otherss have been traumatized. So makes me think a bit. With Bell you never know what to expect.

So today I started the process of trying to get my tuner replaced as it has the skip to live problem very bad. Used the online chat and got helped quite quickly. The agent asked me to check me signal strength, 69 she says there's my problem not enough signal strength??? She says "Then I will send an authorization from my end via satellite to lock in and boost the signal strength". I said ok I'd try it. She said it should take about 2hours for it to happen. 5 hrs later guess what my signal strength is yip still 69.

69% should be ample for reception. I believe at around 50%, you start getting channel loss.

I believe what happened to you was the "ok, I have no idea what to do for this customer, so I'll give him BS to get him off the line..."

I did have a day where I lost signal due to bad weather, and then got the skip to the end issue. But the show said "reception lost" or something to that tune. That's 100% different than just skipping ahead in a broadcast, and it hits the end for no reason.

@ cradar, you would NOT believe the number of times I hear this from Customers.....lol

As you have most likely figured out, what was said is impossible.....

If you are a Rental Customer, call in and ask for a replacement Receiver, if not, then I hope you have Dish Care, otherwise a Re-Furbished unit will be around $149.

@pinza I figured that it was a bunch of smoke but I checked today and my signal is now 80. We are currently trying to watch NASCAR on TSN HD it will not let us rewind live TV now. I do have dish care so logged into chat, got. Replacement receiver on order. Wish me luck.

Default All lights flashing except for dual mode light

Hello, I was doing a long HDD diagnotic test to see if it would correct weird freezing problems when forwarding HD PVR content. I had a power loss while the HDD test was running and now it boots to all flashing lights except for dual mode light and no video but the TV is active. I tried power reset, power cord reset, power cord reset (wait 1 hour) and holding the mode button; it always boots to flashing lights. Any suggestions to get out of it? tks

Default TV2 output ... just -stopped- working

I have a 9242 which was set up months ago. It recently just stopped sending anything out on the tv2 coax out.

My setup actually has three sources being merged and travelling down the same in-house coax system. Two 9242 PVRS and one digital antenna all get combined via a three way splitter and distributed to the house. My 'main' PVR just stopped working.

- I have double checked all settings on both ends (9242 and downstream tv)
- I have tried a different modulator output setting
- I have used another 9242 with the same existing cabling with no issues
- I have removed my 3-way splitter and am able to show that the TV2 output just does not seem to be transmitted down the wire.

Any ideas?

@tcharron
- Have you tried Reset to factory defaults.
- Changing it to single mode, power reset, change it back to dual mode?
If you are using TV2/Coax to view the same thing as TV1 make sure "Share view" is enabled in the receiver options.
- Try composite (yellow rca) cable to rule out configuration issues.

Thanks for the reply Bloup.

I had tried single mode, and also rebooted (by removing power for 15 seconds) -- both without success. I did not try the particular combination you suggested. Did you mean to reboot it while the box is configured as single mode, and then to (after reboot) change back to dual?

I am not using TV2 to view the same program as TV1 (I am using tv2 as an independent - forget what Expressvu calls that mode)

I have not tried rca output and/or resetting to factory defaults (but both are now on my list!)
