Default Replace Telus Actiontech

I am extremely dissatisfied with the Telus Actiontech modem/router combo that Telus has provided me. The firmware is ridiculously locked down and it seems that I have to do a factory reset once a week to stop the configuration menus from crashing. I have access to a used Speedtouch modem from a friend for a reasonable price. Just wondering if t Telus will allow me to activate this modem on my account?

you can't use the speedtouch modem on some new installs.. i too hate the actiontech and wanted to run my own wireless router.. they sent me an speedtouch but when i went to activate it the tech supprt told me my line is the newer line(?) and that the speedtouch will not work.. brutal..
I did find on the net how to disable it and run my wireless router...

For anyone who is interested; it turns out the modem my buddy had was one of the legendary Telus ALU modems. Plugged it into my DSL line and into my standalone router, launched my web browser and headed to registerdevice.telus.com, registered my MAC address and bingo Internet access!

There is a modem you can use, I believe it's the ALU cellpipe, as an alternative to the Actiontech in turbo profiles. You may be able to request one if you mention the issues you're having with your Actiontec.

Often changing your modem may cause your account to temporarily lock up. It should redirect you to registerdevices.telus.com where you can remove the MAC address of your old modem and you account will unlock.

I have an ALU and I'm very happy with it. The problem is that Telus is no longer keeping it current and it's not the standard modem so it is very difficult to come by.

what's the current best modem? my ALU modem died and telus asked if i wanted the Actiontec V1000H with wireless/routing built in or the thompson speedtouch standalone modem.

I picked the speedtouch since i use my own WRT54GL router. But now I think about it, maybe it's nice to have the Actiontec since it has gigabit support and my Linksys doesn't.

Any input on how well the QOS is on the Actiontec V1000H? I would prefer web browsing a gaming to take priority over bulk traffic.

In my opinion the actiontech is a piece of junk if you want to do your own networking. It is impossible to change the LAN IP address or subnet, and you also cannot disable the DHCP server on the actiontech. If you're going to be happy with the default network settings that the actiontech comes with then you should be alright, but if you want to do any sort of networking then it would be best to stick with the speedtouch.

Default Speedstream 516v will replace Actiontec

You can use the Thomson Speedstream 516v modem without any authorization from Telus, just unplug your Actiontech V100H and connect. It will boot up and come online but it's a basic modem with no bells, whistles or optic tv.

P.S. Speeds up and down are the same or higher. If you have a VOIP, you should connect it to this modem first and then connect your router to your Voip phone adapter. No guarantees on how well your Voip phone will work but my internet service is fine although I don't need or use optic tv or any bells or whistles that comes with the Actiontec V1000H.

Not if the OP is on Telus Turbo 25.

Yah Turbo 25 uses vdsl technology. Once your on a VDSL port I don't think you can use an ADSL2+ modem (aka the speedtouch).

My ALU cellpipe died last summer. All telus would offer me was the actiontec. I couldn't stand it. I ended up going back to Shaw. They also use modem/router combos, but a simple call to tech support and they can put the unit in bridge mode. I wouldn't hate the actiontec so much if Telus could also put it into bridge mode.
