I received my "offer of resolution" today. $850 credit for my KDS-50A2000 manufactured in September 2006. Overall, a pretty painless process. Took four business days from the day that I uploaded pictures and I think $850 is a fair offer for my TV.

Now to go to a Sony Store to see if they have any 50" options at a decent price.

Default Longevity?

Just out of curiosity I wonder how many of you here have had their SXRD (any model) for five full years without any issues? I come up on that magic number next Sunday. My SXRD is still performing flawlessly. The bulb takes a little longer to reach full brightness but that's not a big deal. I'm wondering if I'm alone in reaching this "milestone" or not?

(KDS60-A2000).

My 50A-2000 was manufactured on 09/06, and was bought the following January-just under 5 years when it exhibited green tint last fall...

My KDS-R50XBR1 is alive and well and living at my neighbour's place. We got the original upon release in Nov. 2005. It had a bad ob in the first 3 months, then was replaced for a new set in Feb. '06. That's the one the neighbour has. We sold it to them after a couple more ob replacements and Sony gave us an XBR4. I still visit it occasionally. Actually, I watched some hockey on it last week. I think it's on it's 3rd bulb.

Just noticed my TV now has the dreaded yellow blob. Should I bother with this?
Searching through this thread, it appears Sony is still willing to resolve/negotiate some kind of settlement.
Who do I write?
Is there a specific place on Sony.ca to begin?
Do I need pics of the screen?
I probably have my receipt.

thanks for any insight.

Call the Customer service number and they will start the process. They will send you an email and request a few pictures that you upload to a special website that you link to from the email they send.

If they don't provide a descent resolution offer, be sure to write them a detailed 'complaint' when you get the 'how did we do' follow up email they send. I was not impressed to start with and then got a surprising result after completing the follow up survey.

Wow, was that Sony guy ever friendly.

Just uploaded the 3 pics, and now the wait.

Default Sony Does the Right Thing

Based on what I've read here, Sony has made something good out of a bad thing. Yes they were slow to admit that there was a problem with the optical block and had to be taken to court before admitting it but they have since responded quickly to anyone who has the problem. I do give them credit for that.

(Owner of a five year old KDS60-A2000 SXRD. Est. 5,000+ hours on the first bulb and no sign yet of the green blob)

They are really working hard to provide good customer service. I had one problem when calling in about a second problem but once I did that online survey things improved drastically.

Glad to hear they are so far making it 'painless' for you.

My concern is Sony Store prices are 400 bucks higher than BestBuy/FutureShop. And, there's no Sony store here in Red Deer anymore so negotiating a better price for a 55" BRAVIA LED HX750 could be fruitless if at all possible.

Reidw. That's about the same hours I had when I noticed the CFL teams were playing on yellowish fake grass.

@berty: Same situation as you. There's no Sony Store here in PEI. FS is the only retail option on the Island. If my SXRD ever goes down with an OB issue my only way to use the credit easily would be to order online.

However at this point I might be more inclined to just skip the credit. None of the current Sony's interest me. I've had my set 5 years now and that is probably the longest in twenty years I've kept the same set. I'm more likely to just go out and buy a 70 inch model from another manufacturer. The one thing I do know is that anything less than my current 60 inches would be like downgrading. There's no going back once you've had a larger screen to a smaller size and staying satisfied.

Berty, be sure to raise those issues with Sony. I noticed they had actually lowered the prices to the same as FS and BB in the Sony store but not online when I went to get my replacement a couple of months ago. Also, if you do have to buy it online, they should be providing free shipping since there is no Sony Store where you live now. Try reasoning with them. You never know what you might get.

Thanks for the info Jetr,' with that in mind I'll be sure to encourage a better deal out of them.
I talked to my buddy last night, who's seen the TV with the issue. I might get 300 bucks out of it and a free take away (I don't have a truck).

Well, I got a normal offer similar to everyone else. Can't disclose the amount as the agreement I signed forbids it.
I did write and ask about price matching the 400 dollar difference and shipping. They're not willing to even discuss it. I guess I'll have to phone the closest Sony store or the main number for sonystyle see if they're going to be helpful.
