Hello,
I was just wondering if all of the receivers that are being sold on places like kij work on all accounts...I guess I am asking, if you buy a cable box online from someone, is it just a plug & play thingy, or is there more to it in terms of activations it? (already have Shaw cable, just looking at adding another receiver for cheap) sorry if this should be somewhere else or if it is a dumb question... |

Hi there, you will have to have the current owner call in and advise Shaw that you will be the new owner and then you will have to call in to have it activated.
They will add it to your account, from the sellers. I would try and find someone you know that is selling one if possible. Less chance of it being stolen or some other issues. |

You need to purchase from a Shaw customer in good standing and check with your provider regarding that specific STB with the appropriate S/N, etc. Here's an article on the topic.
http://www.digitalhome.ca/2011/05/bu...box-in-canada/ There are lots of stolen or otherwise useless STBs for sale on the web, so caveat emptor. Some Shaw STBs don't work in certain areas, so you also need to check on that with Shaw.
