Any HSPA version will work, they're all the same. The Galaxy Nexus has the right frequency bands for all Canadian HSPA providers.

To further clarify: Any GN except the Verizon one will work, and should be fully unlocked.

Why won't Verizon one work? Which Galaxy N can I use on Canadian and US networks?

The Verizon one is CDMA/LTE and can only be used on Verizon. The one sold in Canada and Europe, which uses HSPA, will work on both the Big 3 and Wind, Videotron, and Mobilicity, as well as AT&T and T-Mobile in the US. It is currently available at Telus, Rogers, Fido, Bell, and Virgin, and is coming soon to Wind, Videotron, and Mobilicity. It isn't sold by any of the US carriers at the moment.
The one sold by Verizon (and Sprint soon as well) will not work with any Canadian carriers. |

Not sure if I should start a new thread. Anyways, I finally got my hands on this phone.
Phone is open with ICS 4.0.1 and I signed on with Wind. Trying to figure out how to update to latest ICS. Phone tells me, its updated. What am I doing wrong ? Do I have to wait for Wind to send me a message ? |

The Galaxy Nexus phones sold in Canada aren't really true Nexus devices. When Google releases a new OS update, it goes to Samsung, who then decide when they want to send it out.
If you want to change your phone to the official Google firmware, you will have to flash your phone's firmeware from the yakjuux version to the yakju version. You will then get timely updates when Google releases them. |

Regarding firmware, I don't have the techspeak to understand the codes / versions you describe. But this goes back to my first question-- Galaxy Nexus is the flagship Google phone.... who is it in the world that gets these updates automatically, and why aren't we in that jakyak queue? |

Galaxy Nexus devices sold in Canada have a slightly different firmware version. The only difference, as far as I know, is that the software updates come from Samsung, rather than directly from Google, and so they come much slower.
If you flash the other firmware version to your existing hardware, your updates will come from Google and you'll get them quickly. It's not hard, but it requires a little technical know-how and a comfort level with flashing ROMs. |

Thanks. I'll look that up, and won't flash anything till I'm ready and comfortable.
