Exclamation LG 42PC3D reboots randomly problem (TV Replaced)

I just purchased a new LG 42PC3D 3 weeks ago. I LOVE it! For the first 2 weeks, I watched it using a DirecTV box (non-HD) while waiting for DirecTV to deliver and install my new dish and HD-DVR. Well, DirecTV missed 2 appointments and pissed me off, so I canceled the service. In the meantime, I hooked up an HDTV antenna and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of off-air HDTV broadcasts.

I have noticed that the TV randomly shuts off and automatically restarts while changing channels. It's fine if I leave it on a show, but when I change channels (either by using the channel up/down button or typing the number directly), it sometimes just reboots itself.

I don't know if this is a bug with this model or if my tv is an exception. This is an issue most people will never realize as most people use a cable/satellite box to change channels. The problem I'm having only arises while changing channels on the TV.

I called LG and they are sending a tech to check it out next week. They said the tech can't do anything unless he can replicate the problem (which is understandable). Just wondering if anyone else with the same TV who uses off-air has noticed the same issue.

Other than this glitch, I love the picture!

Thanks,

Howard

PS - I can't return it to the store for a replacement as I've already mailed in the rebate form.

Default LG tech came by today

The LG tech showed up regarding the random reboot problem. All he did was get into the service menu and reset everything. He said he had seen this problem on a couple of sets before and a complete reset through the service menu did the job. He said a simple unplugging the power to reset will not do the same, it needs to be done through the service menu. He accessed the service menu with a special remote that he had brought.

So far, the TV is working fine. No more random reboot problems while changing channels.

And to give LG credit, the tech showed up on time as promised, and was very pleasant. I'm a happy Lg customer!

But since the problem was random, I'm still not quite sure if it will happen again. Presume this problem has been resolved unless you see me posting to this thread again :-)

Default Oops! Posted too soon

Well, I guess I posted that it now works fine too soon. Last night, it started rebooting again while changing channels. So I guess the reset by the tech didn't do the job.

Called LG and they are sending out someone again next week (Wednesday). The customer rep on the phone said his previous call was another caller with the identical mysterious reboot problem while changing channels. Looks like this is the discovery of a small bug.

As I've stated before, since most people use a cable/satellite box to change channels, they will never notice this issue. This only happens randomly while changing channels using the off-air antenna (Digital Broadcasts).

I'll post the results after the technican comes over next week.

LG tech called me instead of coming to my home. It was the same tech as last time and said he will just order a new digital board - no need to come by and see the same problem again. The new board is supposed to come in by next Tuesday. I'll keep this board informed as if that solves the problem.

Default Update

Tech came over yesterday with new digital board. Unfortunately, it's the wrong board! He apologized and said he will order the correct part after taking down the numbers from my board.

Although a bit frustrating, I have to say that I really like this technician. He's a really nice guy, very cordial. He has kept me in the loop with phone calls and updates. And my problem isn't major. I can use the TV and watch shows. The intermitent rebooting while changing channels is an annoyance, not detrimental.

This just goes to show what good communications can do. I'd be normally pissed by now, but the professionalism he has shown, has kept me calm. Mistakes happen, the key is how they are handled. LG had told me on the phone that they will replace the TV on the 3rd attempt at a repair.

He's supposed to call me back and give me more info on when he expects the correct part. I'll keep this board updated.

Default Your right

Getting angry solves nothing. I am having an ongoing issue with my LCDTV.

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...t=55656&page=2

Due to being really freindly to the rep he was really heplful processed my request on the spot! He agreed that this was a lot off issues to go through just for a TV. He agreed that if I did not get statisfactory results that I can bring up legal action and contacting Consumer protection and the BBB.

Smile Update

Just to keep this thread updated.....

I never received a call back regarding the new digital board. On Tuesday, April 10th, it became 2 weeks that my part hadn't arrived. I called LG customer service and they said they'll put in a request for a replacement. 2 days later (Thursday), I received a call from LG that my replacement had been approved. Yesterday, I received a letter from LG (via DHL) stating to take my TV and this letter to my dealer for a replacement. The entire process took 1-week after I called (request for a new TV and delivery time). I'm impressed.

I called my dealer immediately and they said the 42PC3D is no longer being made. I could get a new 42PC5D, or since prices have come down, I can upgrade for about $400 to a 50" 50PC5D. I decided to upgrade, $400 is worth it. They are delivering a new 50" today and taking my 42" back

The nice thing is that when I bought my 42", I also got a $300 rebate from LG (limited time promotion). So it's like getting a super discount on this new 50" TV!!!! I'm thrilled and can't wait for the delivery in a few hours.

I give LG my highest ratings on their customer service. Truely superb. They will replace the TV if they can't get it right within 3 service calls, or if a part takes more than 2-weeks to arrive. And they stand by it. Remember, my Sharp Aquos was in the repair shop for over 8-weeks!!!! And you can't beat their 2-year in-home parts and labor warranty.

Thank you LG!

Thats good to hear since I am most likely in the market for a new TV soon. I too plan to take advantage of the prices coming down to go from a 42" to 46" After reading about banding issues and customer service from Sharp I plan to stay away from them.

Default 32LD750 Reboots randomly

Hi!
I also have the "reboot" problem... but in my case it's worse. It reboots randomly and keeps rebooting by itself, when i:
change channels;
do nothing;
press menu key on the remote;
press a channel number on the remote or prog+ and prog-;
don't know all the keys on the remote that cause the reboot, but most of them do;
And now for the really strange thing, on one of the first times it rebooted, i was pissed and gave a little bump on the top of the screen, in a up-downward direction and the god damn thing worked ok for a while, then all was back. No regular amount of time, it's just random. This "method" still works nowadays.
Anyway i send it to the LG repair guy, excellent service by the way, and he said that he would replace the "digital board" on the tv. When it came i connected it and all was excellent, half an hour later it was all back again!!! One thing that i did that made work ok for a few days was replacing the weak batteries on the remote, but as it reboots without pressing any keys, i don't think that's the problem. It's still the same...
Any ideas?
Thx!

Unhappy LG TV 47LE5400 has reboot problem too

My LG 47LE5400 started the random reboot thing two days ago. I just got through to LG customer service. I have FAXED my sales receipt and am waiting on them to decide if this is a "warranty" issue.
This seems to be a common issue for LG products. At the moment I will not be a repeat customer.

I had this problem with my Samsung a few years ago, so it is not isolated to LG products. It was all fixed under warranty, and they ended up replacing the relay and connections from the IR sensor to the circuit board (IIRC). The first tech said it is often a crimped or bent wire and repositioning it does the trick. That worked for about 3 months before the problem came back. After the part replacement it has been fine for nearly 3 years now.

I can't say it is the same problem, but the symptoms are what I experienced.
