Decent Tropo this morning. Almost all of the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Watertown stations were in strongly. Also had CBLT in, as well. Also had some of the Albany and Utica stations in, as well. I give it a 6 out of 10 morning.

On the bad side, has anyone heard when the Corus channels are ever going to go digital? CHEX 12 and CKWS 11 are still in analog, as is CTV's CJOH. Of course, I can get the Brighton repeater for CKWS, but the point is, these channels are dragging their feet and I would like to watch their programming, but won't until they get with it.

A friendly reminder to post tropo results in the OTA: Eastern Ontario & Quebec DXing, Tropo, Atypical Reception: 2012 thread. Also, please remember to post specific details in that thread; stations, call letters, etc. Not just, "I pulled in Albany this morning".

Thanks!

Well my big CM combo antenna is out at my buddies place. I didn't realize it was so big! He doesn't have his pickup anymore so I will need to figure out a way to get the monster home.
I figure if I can split 6 and 2 hopefully I can grab 7 off the back. That way I can then combine it with my UHF antenna using my CM7777 pre-amp. If that works I wont need a rotor.

It's not guaranteed to work but it's worth a try!

I wrote to CHEX and at that point they didn't have a date for when they would transition to digital. His guess was it would be within the next three years, but that was only a guess. The biggest cost to them is laying fiber optic cable to the transmitter.

Hi guys I'm helping a friend I he bought a hd antenna with built in amp and the 360' degree rotation and a DTV box and he lives in Napanee, On and we are trying to get channels all we get as we speak is TVO but I helped my dad with same antenna and box and was able to get 25 channels and he live between Brighton and Trenton Ontario.

Default Somewhere in Napanee, ON

Welcome to the forum.

Please go to TVFool.com and produce an exact address TVFool report. Copy and paste the link (URL) to the TVFool report into a message here. Your message will be moved to the appropriate pre-existing thread.

Please identify the antenna that you have installed.

Here is a TVFool report for a random spot in Napanee.

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...13495c5ac08314

You will see that you're probably getting exactly what you can expect with a small amplified omnidirectional antenna. With one of those antennas, I would predect that you could get TVO only.

Please read through the Welcome threads here so you can educate yourself on which antennas are appropriate for which locations and so you can learn about transmitters, etc. This will be very important for you -- especially if you are enthusiastic about OTA and want to help people make the switch (I applaud you for that).

Your Napanee friend will need a different antenna(s), a stand-alone pre-amp, a rotator, and much more height, and a clear unobstructed view in a few different directions. If you do everything right and if he is in a good location in Napanee, then he might eventually get between five and ten digital channels...and several analog channels.

yeah, Napanee can be problematic. you are just far enough from Watertown that a 360 degree antenna might not work for you (is it one of the round jobbies). I know lots of people there and with a good antenna get Watertown. Syracuse and Rochester will be hit and miss in Napanee. Rochester should be booming in at your Dad's place though. Its all about location, location, location. Post the tvfool information.

Default Kingston CTV

I am just setting up my new channelmaster antenna in Kingston, and I can't seem to get CTV (CJOH) at all. Even going up onto the roof, I get great reception on other channels, but CTV doesn't register at all.

Here is my TV Fool report - it seems to me I shouldn't have any trouble getting reception. Has it stopped transmitting or something, or to I need something special?

Are you using a pre-amp? And if so, is it set to "combine" (most Channel Master amps) on the UHF port? (switch is inside the amp).

What antenna model? rotor? preamp?

CJOH is nearly opposite of the aim for most of your other stations.

That tvfool report shows that CJOH is -16NM(db) and it's 92 miles away,.. it may simply be out of reach for you.

Ranz, if you are using a Channel Master 4228 or 4221 antenna, then channel 6 (the CJOH repeater 29 miles away) is going to be really poor for you. Its a strong signal, but you need a good VHF-lo antenna to pull it in.

Never had luck getting it without some sort of VHF capable antenna. I use a VIP302-SR with a channel 6 jointenna. That seems to work okay for me.

Other than say CTV and Global, how is the reception of the other channels?

So I put up a monster last night http://imgur.com/pKNxa and I'm sad to say that I didn't get anything better than I was getting from my cheap 4 bay.

Ok well I get 11, 32 38 crystal now, 6 is fuzzy but 7 is still missing as is WWTI (I can't remember the chan number)

I know I need to do some tweaking for the pointing of the antenna but I was hoping for better results.

We are north of Bath by about 5km. We have an old antenna that came with our house.... over the last few years we have started loosing channels. Incredibly frustrating since the In-Laws (who line 50 meters away) have GAINED channels with a similar age and type of antenna, Based on the TV Fool 'map' I should be able to get between 6-8 channels

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...99001758bad63c

We can only get CJOH (except it's not broadcasting tonight? Anyone else?), CKWS and WWNY.

If we wanted to replace our aging antenna - how hard would it be to DIY? Can we walk into Radio Shack and buy something that would work?
