Default New Firmware on the way?

as per mail i received indicating some changes that are coming in the fall, there should be new firmware at that time, right?

one change is the new hd guide, i forget what else was mentioned.

any rumours of other 'enhancements' we might see in that release?

thanks

The way Shaw updates I wouldn't bet on the fall of this year. Maybe the fall of 2013.

Scuttlebut is there is new firmware this year at least, possibly by or during early summer. That firmware is said to include Shaw VOD from the Internet, and possibly HDD expansion. At the end of this year, the G1 satellite should go into service.

Default Would you like flies with that...

That's good news and bad news. Every new feature arrives with new bugs. It's only after new features stop being added while bug fix updates continue that PVRs become stable. IP VOD is a nice touch but will cost Ontario consumers a bundle with Bell and Rogers' low internet caps. I wonder when the CRTC will stop that anti-competitive practice so that Shaw Direct can compete fairly outside of Shaw's cable territory. External hard drive is a nice to have but mostly a non-issue since I put a 1TB drive in the 630. Excuse me while I simultaneously cringe and yawn at the thought of the new bugs, uh... features.

Can they finally fix the call display on the TV screen as well? Something so simple...

Doesn't work on the 630. Never has. Never had any troubles with it on my old 505.

CD works fine on my 630 as well. If it could just record programming reliably I would be ecstatic. Leave call display for telephones, at least until the HDPVR 630 works well as a PVR.

It will be at least December before the new satellite is fully operational. Who knows when Shaw will start adding more channels and have all the dish upgrades done. We are looking for 630 upgrades and bug fixes unrelated to the new satellite.

The satellite mapping is 100% independent of firmware. In theory, the firmware the receivers have now could receive channels from the new satellite.

I've never really had any issues with my 630 in terms of using the PVR. I am on cable internet and voip line. But my CD didnt work even before when i had my analog line. As i said, it would be nice if it did work. When you have two small children, it's difficult to jump up and see if you even want to answer the phone especially when you get so many garbage phone calls.

FWIW, the call display on my 530 works. Most of the time.
