Those that don't like Stern have never listened to Stern, at least on a regular basis. Remember what Howard does on his radio show is just "SCHTICK", theatrics, and nothing more. His radio personna is very different from his off-air personna. I think he will definitely bring in ratings, and be a good judge.

So Piers Morgan is gone? I don't watch the show; can't stand Morgan. Haven't seen much of Stern on TV lately, so I assume this was a good opportunity for him.

So because you like him, everyone who doesn't like him is an idiot or doesn't know what they are talking about?

I thought Piers did a good job, I'll give Stern a chance and hope for the best.

Hopefully he only has a one year contract.

Simon Cowell did mention that they are hiring a 4th judge.

I have listened to Stern a few times, and I REALLY do not like him. I couldn't bring myself to listen anymore. So I wouldn't generalize with a statement like that

Wow Hugh, talk about reading between the lines. I don't know Humbar, have never emailed/PM'd him/her, don't recall any other posts by that person but feel compelled to defend him/her as I didn't read that at all from that post.

Look at that post as an explanation, not an accusation. The way I read it, I think you're way off base thinking that Humbar is remotely accusing non-stern fans of being "idiots". The truth is that most people don't know much about Howard unless they are regular listeners and their opinions is mostly based on rumors and assumptions and hence the explanation. Your reply seems way out of left field here.

As for me, I'm sick and tired of him but not for the reasons most would assume. I'm sick and tired of his elitist attitude - including acting like a know it all and never admitting to being wrong about anything. He and Robin have completely lost touch with the working class. Listening about his 4 day weekends, private jets, and $800 bottles of wine while the rest of us are working 5 days a week is getting to be too much.

I think this show gets its ratings just by having no competition the summer. Just like Big Brother.

Having him on will be the only reason I would watch actually. I listen to him regularly and I do agree somewhat with N-of-Cal. that he's a little out of touch with the average Joe, but then I could say that of most of the people judging on these shows. Having said that, anyone who really listens to Stern will attest that if he's going to commit himself to something like this he'll, take it seriously and give his all.

People forget that he's insanely popular and successful because he knows his audience and knows what they want. Contrary to popular belief, he didn't dominate an entire industry, have two best selling books, hit movie and then go on to help build a new industry and make hundreds of millions of dollars with only fart jokes and strippers. I think if you go in without any preconceived notions and give him a chance, you'll be surprised.

To be honest, I actually prefer the British version. The audience there is often more vicious than the judges, including Simon Cowell! I didn't think that was possible!

Is Howie Mandell still one of the judges? Regrettably, I just couldn't stand him and stopped watching the show after only two episodes. If he's still on, I hope Howard Stern will help balance things out.

Okay, I'm halfway through the second episode, and I have to say that Howard Stern was definitely the right choice for a judge. He's shown an extraordinary amount of restraint and balance even with the bad acts. Definitely appreciative of his honesty and candor.

As for Howie Mandel, what's happening to him? He's starting to become progressively nasty!

I agree, Stern is much better than I expected. I think Howie is also doing a fine job.

Howie Mandel has to be the bad judge since Piers is gone. I am no fan of Stern but I must say he does a good job.

Okay, I'm definitely happy with the judges this time around. Even when they disagree, or they hate an act, they're all civilized. It was the lack of civility that made me tune out of the American version during the last few years, the show being such a monumental train wreck. But now, I can finally watch the show without feeling as if everyone's out to get everyone else!

Very happy. Keep it up.

I still enjoy AGT but I miss Piers.

I'm okay with Stern but I am surprised at how boring he his. Like Sharon and Howie, he seems to fawn too much over crowd favourites.

What I found refreshing about Piers is that he was a foil to Howie and Sharon.

Piers would often be critical of crowd favourites that were more novelty acts than truly talented. Also Piers wasn't sucked into the sentimental schmultzy stuff. Several times this year, AGT has had some moderately talented acts that clearly are working the patriotism angle and in very case, Sharon, Howie and Especially Howard have been all dewey eyed.

I don't think it matters too much who judges the acts on AGT; it's all about the acts. If the networks had told us that they were bringing back vaudeville, we would probably have avoided the show like the plague. If they told us they were bringing back an Ed Sullivan type program then ratings would not be all that high; but pretend that the pop singers, comedians, ballet dancers, circus acts and opera singers are part of a talent/reality show, and millions of people will tune in. As far as the judges go, the audiences will get accustomed to anyone after a while, and learn to love or hate them, it doesn't matter, because it's all about the separate, unrelated acts grouped together; it's all about bringing vaudeville back to TV. As long as the audience thinks that it is hip and modern they/we will watch it.
