The only problem with trying to use a US provider is you loose access to the Canadian sports stations. If you're a big hockey fan (especially of your local team) it would probably be a dealbreaker?

That being said I'm a Wings fan. I wonder if I could get Fox Sportsnet Detroit if I signed up for Dish It would sure beat all the away feeds i'm forced to watch on centre ice.

Animal Planet in HD on channel 251 just appeared for me today here in Edmonton. Still not showing channels 252 and 253 in the guide but I suspect that these channels will likely be reserved for Movie Central 2 and 3 when they become available here. But I think maybe they should move some channels around and re-arrange more logically if they are going to do that.

Just a quick word of thanks to Shaw Champ for jumping in to clarify the issue around Nat Geo Wild. The family is enjoying it. Now if we could just get that all HD only package...!

I'm in Edmonton on the old HDPLus for $16.00 (I think is was $12.00 during 2011). I have one mpeg4 HD PVR box in my home plus 1 non MPEG4 HD PVR and 2 non mpeg4 HD boxes) - pretty heavily invested in HD.
I get all of the HD Channels except for Oasis (230) or APHD (251). The screen says "Not Authorized". I also do not subscribe to SCHD 1 & 2 or SNWLH (254)
I am presently getting the NGWHD (255) on the mpeg4 HD PVR, perhaps on a free preview as others have stated.
I don't think I will switch to the $35.00 package (from the present $16.00) any time soon - and especially if I can only watch the new channels on 1 TV in the house.

@Mice72 and those in Edmonton. Nat Geo Wild HD & Animal Planet HD saw a change in that previously these were Digital Network Upgrade area only channels and have now been made available regardless of DNU area in the city due to some back end changes. Movie Central 2 & 3 HD (ch.252+253) in Edmonton will be in only areas that have had the upgrade only.

Thanks for the info Shaw Champ. Is the entire city of Edmonton going to experience the DNU? If so, what kind of time frame are we looking at?

Once again Shaw is not listening to their customers by adding channels people dont want or have serious demand for. All they are doing is wasting bandwidth. Hollywood Suite, FX and Global Reality Channel are what most are asking for and Shaw is pretending like they are not hearing. Shaw thought they lost a lot of money last quarter...just wait

So you must have polled all Shaw users to find out what they want most in channels. How do you know they are not listening? Is it because they didn't add the channels you, and around 50 other DHC members wanted? Sure on this forum those channels, you mentioned, are what people want most. However, the amount of people on this forum, that express interest in those channels, make up a very small fraction of Shaw's subscribers.

I agree with you on this. This is the reason I think Shaw should have an online channel request page that would provide a better count on keeping track of what everyone wants. Maybe they could provide a poll of channels they are currently working to get or ones that have been requested the most and then a write in form for all other channels people would like to request. Mainly something like this would be great if only to show that they are willing to listen to what we all want. I'm still waiting for NFL Network HD to come like Telus has. Any word on that at all yet?

I dont have to poll anyone. The most popular channels in Canada for a long time have been Sports, Movies and Networks. Reality shows are also some of the highest rated shows among all Canadian shows. Nature shows aside from Discovery barely stay afloat. It's common sense really

Except for reality shows (like Survivor) how big is the demand for repeats? I like to watch survivor a fair bit, but I wouldn't both to rewatch a season.

I would think a channel full of reality show repeats wouldn't be nearly as popular as first run material. Knowing who wins would kind of take the wind out of its sails.

I've had enough of movie channels. Especially ones that come laced with commercials. If I want to pay for movies, I'll but a netflix subscription, or buy the odd movie off VoD.

I'm pretty content with sports. It would be nice for Shaw to make some kind of CBC alternate channel to carry the extra HNIC feeds. (or maybe it would be nice for CBC to create something like that for shaw to air). With 7 Canadian teams, and 7 different regions, I don't think any provider could carry all the station in HD to guarantee no missed games. An alternate feed (like the sn1 feed) to carry the overlapping games would be brilliant.

Networks we already have. I don't want more movie channels. I don't want a channel full of reality tv reruns. More sports.. can't argue with you there

This is all in your opinion. You have NO idea on what channels the majority of Canadians are asking from Shaw. The only ones that know are Shaw. I am guessing that the majority of Shaw cable subscribers have never heard of Hollywood Suite and FX, so if they don't know anything about them, do you think they will be requesting them? I myself could be wrong, and maybe the Hollywood suite of channels are the most requested channels in Canada, but I am in not in any position to state this as a fact. I can only offer my opinion. I guess it is easy to do on forums, to blurt out an opinion as a fact.

I am a Shaw customer that has no interest in getting a watered down Canadian version of FX or another group of movie channels playing the same old movies over and over again.

Perhaps I am in the minority.

No problem At the moment I can't give any timeline for the whole city sorry. We are committed to doing the DNU for sure, tens of thousands have had the upgrade already. (we have plans for a few areas in the works and I will let you know more as soon as I can). Plus we are always looking at infrastructural challenges in some neighbourhoods that exist, forecast for new areas, and planning upgrades that ensures everyone receives quality service on all products. DNU is the main focus for us to free up more space that for example can be used for additional TV channels but we are also looking at other ways to claim space too.
