Whoops ! I got the two drivers mixed up. I guess Perez would be a good fit.
I think Alonso might be a more difficult team mate than Vettel. Webber's a good racer, but he's past him prime.

Ferrari won't hire a driver unless he has considerable experience. Massa had two years with Sauber plus one year testing for Ferrari before he was brought on board. Off the top of my head I'd say Massa was the least experienced driver to join the team in the last couple of decades. At the end of this year Perez - who has already done test work for Ferrari and is driving a car with one of their engines -along with Di Resta and Maldonado will only have two years experience by the end of 2012. Based on how they've operated in the past signing a much more experienced driver (eg Webber ending his career there) for a year or two while signing up Perez for the future - 2014 or 2015 - seems realistic. That way Perez could be nurtured to replace Alonso as #1 in 2017 when his contract is finished. Then there's their test driver Jules Bianchi. They could help him get a drive with a smaller team (one with Ferrari engines!) for a couple of years then evaluate his potential for a seat. There's no shortage of options.

Any possibility that the Canadian Grand Prix might get canceled this year given the situation; non-stop student protest and daily clashes with police regarding tuition fees hikes add that with the Quebec government passed a new law?

If they can go to Bahrain Quebec shouldn't be too much of a problem. Of course Bahrain really wanted it badly.
Incidentally Ecclestone has demanded $15 million worth of upgrades to the Montreal circuit. Contract time is coming up again and with a race supposedly going to happen in New Jersey the Canadian GP may no longer matter that much to F1. |

Could we be seeing Schumi back on form? His antics in P3 and his performance in Q3 at Monaco this weekend were pure classic Schumacher.

Very unprofessional response to Schumacher's pole from David Coulthard. He's been better this year but he just can't hide his bitterness.

Did others find the broadcast of both the qualifying and the race itself to be very saturated in colour? Everything looked neon. I thought someone switched my tv to Vivid!!

Going by memory....As soon as Ben Edwards described MS's pole position performance, DC jumped right in very defensively to pour cold water on it, reminding the viewers that MS would not sit on pole in the race. It was the defensive exasperated tone more than anything as well as the fact that it was unnecessary as we'd already been told a couple of times about MS's five position penalty, including by Edwards right after qualifying ended. Then when Edwards returned to MS's qualifying, I think because the cameras were on him, DC jumped in again a nanosecond after Edwards finished and shouted "ALL HAIL MARK WEBBER", followed by some awkwardness as he repeated his previous point that MS would not start on pole.

Meanwhile the the BBC rival Sky also had an awkward moment covering the Monaco GP: Presenter Simon Lazenby made a joke about Monaco's twisty roads...and Grace Kelly.

Simon Lazenby is an idiot, he should get fired over that stupid comment.
Coulthard and Schumacher never got along and never will, sour grapes from David that saw Schumacher winning 7 titles during his career. When I think of Coulthard and Schumacher going at it, right away one race comes to mind, Spa 1998. In another subject, how about Ron Howard's new movie "Rush"? The movie about Niki Lauda and James Hunt. I'm kind of excited about this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CY-5kPS0FjY |

The movie does look interesting. Of course, there haven't really been any great motorsports movies. Frankenheimer's 'Grand Prix', though no classic and marred with some cheesy lines and boring subplots, was a decent enough film by sports movie standards. The best thing about it was seeing the classic tracks as they were back in the Sixties. This reminds me that I still haven't seen 'Senna', which has really good reviews from F1 fans.

According to CTV, Grand Prix du Canada will be on CTV. Two games of Euro 2012 will be on TSN at that time and Sprint Cup's Pocono 400 will be on TSN2.
Of course the Grand Prix will also be available on Fox, but I loathe Fox's 'Americanized' coverage of F-1. |
