I have been having the 5 second loop issue as well. So I bit the bullet and tried shaw concierge.(I only had to wait about 5 seconds for a support agent - well done shaw!) They went through the usual make sure your unit is plugged directly into the wall and not a power bar, unplug and wait 30 seconds. Which I had done prior to contacting support.
Support looked at the box and said it was not showing any errors. So they reset my pace box and now I have to wait and see if the same problem persists. If it does the support guy said that I should format my expander and see if that fixes the problem. I was kinda just hoping that they would replace the unit, which will be the direction I push for if im still getting the error after this box reset and possible expander format. |

My Pace 758D w/1TB expander is acting up lately...glitches, dropouts and the odd self-reset. This has probably been asked before(yes, I tried searching), but, if I trade in for a Moto HD box, how can I save the recordings from my 1TB Pace expander?
Thanks. |

The basic answer is; you can't. All recordings made on an external Hard Drive are 'married' to the box they were recorded from. If you have to replace the box, you lose the content on the external drive.
Really, the only way to 'save' any material on your current expander would be to manually record all programs over to another medium such as VHS, DVD or onto another hard drive but you would likely not want to go through the time consuming process as it would all have to be done 'in real time' by playing each recording and re-recording on the new media.

My DCT758 just keep on resetting by itself every couple of hours. After each reset, the DVR functions would disappear. I needed to shut down the external drive and the cable box, and then turn on, first the external drive, then the PVR again. But I still could not always get the PVR functions back.
I re-activated the PVR several times but still could not solve the problem. Then I decided to swap another drive into the enclosure and that solved the problem right away. It looks like the external drive caused the problem. |

I am now trying to clone my external drive to a larger drive, so that I can keep my recordings. Will that work?

I don't believe anyone here has ever accomplished this successfully so if you somehow manage to get it to work, please post what you did so the rest of us can benefit. I doubt you will have any luck though but it's always worth trying for your own piece of mind. Good luck!

how do i go about recording the olympics in hd channels only in series recording mode? i tried changing the settings to record this channel only for ctvhd, then if i setup another hd olympic channel, it wont work because they have the same name, "2012 summer olympics". If i set record all channels, they mix in sd channels , which i dont want.

Set a manual time, day and channel recording. You should have options to include 'every day' if that is what you need.

Is there a list of hard drives compatible with this PVR? I think I saw it somewhere here before.

I've found that just about any drive 2TB and smaller will work. I tried a Hitachi 4TB but it wouldn't format it.

after all the common issues with this box (dropouts, pixellation, 1 minute recordings, 5 second loop etc) I finally bit the bullet and called shaw to arrange for a tech to come to my house for the veryy first time. he was a real nice guy, and before i went into explaining the problems told me he could swap out the box for another pace, or give me a brand new motoral dcx3400. I opted for the motorola. I thought since ive never even come close to even 50 percent on my 1tb pace unit, I would sacrifice hard drive space for a better unit.
Aside from the downside of losing my recordings I'm pretty happy. looks like shaw is pretty good about replacing these boxes. |

1)If I remove drive A from external enclosure.
2)Put in another drive B and use it for a couple of days. 3)Swap back in drive A. Are all the recorded programs still available on drive A? |

As far as I know, yes. Just do NOT format when it asks to do so when you replace drive A.
At least when I removed a drive from my Summit and then replaced it days later all my data was all there. I did not use a second drive in between though. I don't think it should matter however. The box just looks for the "Shaw stamp of approval" (Proper formatting/partitioning) and will read the old data. This is my understanding based of my experience with the Pace box, but you may wish to wait for official word. |

Yes, you can swap drives that have been previously formatted and recorded. Just make sure not to format when the PVR detects the drive change at boot time. However, be warned that your PVR recording schedule is also stored on the drive, so when you swap it out you will also lose your recording schedule.
Also, my Pace was having a lot of problems.. rebooting at random, missing recordings, looping, skipping... and finally the external drive died. I bought a replacement drive and now the Pace works better than ever. All of the problems have disappeared. The drive is used for buffering and other temporary storage, so when it starts to go flakey it affects all functions. Cheers! |

I'm new to the DC758, and find a frustrating "feature:" when I pause a recording the time banner obscures the lower part of the screen. This also happens in slow motion. When I pause to look at stats or detail in the picture it is often obscured by the banner. Is there some way to make the banner disappear so I can see the picture behind it? On my Bell PVR, this can be accomplished by using the "frame advance" button.
