And he usually has one team he wants to win and won't say a good thing about the other team at all through out the game.

Ugh... Bob Cole is at it again... Ottawa scores late in the first period... "Ottawa with an early lead".
Bob, you are supposed to be impartial!! Why can't the CBC just put him out to pasture already. |

Agreed, Cole has got to go !!!! They've got Dean Brown calling a US series. Dean knows the names of all the players and their stats.
Of course HNIC doesn't listen to the fans.... http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=43343 LOL |

@notsure: You beat me to it. I also thought his comment about Ottawa taking an "early" lead was ridiculous. The first period was nearly over when the goal was scored. That is hardly early. Also at least twice in the period he had to correct himself for identifying the wrong player. Finally he's a big Montreal homer.
On another slightly off topic comment, am I the only one who finds that kid in Montreal who carries the flame to centre ice to be a bit pretentious. Sure Montreal was once a great team but they aren't anymore and shouldn't be pretending that they still are. Those days have passed. |

Is he more biased towards Montreal or Toronto? It's pretty bad in both cases.
Every year I hope is his last but he keeps coming back! I would love to be hearing Dean Brown call this game!!! I may have to get Bell TV again with RDS just so I don't have to listen to him. |

Bob Cole has definitely got to go. He should have retired years ago. Isn't he close to 80? He is just too far behind on the Play By Play. I can't figure it out Dean Brown calls Ottawa games all year why not have him call their playoff games.

Dean Brown is Ok I guess. My main complaint is that he is a very flat announcer. Listening to him is as exciting as watching paint dry.
As for why Bob and not Dean, it is probably just a matter of seniority. Cole did Montreal most of this season. Brown did Ottawa. If Montreal wasn't involved Brown would probably have gotten the Ottawa games depending of course on their opponents. |

The worst is a tie between Jack Edwards of Boston, who compared Matt Cooke to Sirhan Sirhan a couple of weeks ago, and Bob Steigerwald of Pittsburgh's TV broadcast (not Mike Lange, the radio guy). Listening to that guy, you would think that if everybody did things the way the Pittsburgh Penguins did, we'd have World Peace and cured all the hunger problems in Africa by now.
I like Jim Hughson, but his Vancouver homerism can get irritating. I miss Gary Thorne who called the games for ESPN/ABC. |

Anyone keeping track of how many phantom Ottawa penalties Bob has called in tonight's game?

LOL..... yea... and there were an awful lot of passes to people that never happened either.
I'd suggest someone start a site keeping tracking of his mistakes but I'm not sure the internets can handle something of that size. Is CBC Sports this incompetent or do they just don't care? |

Tonight at about 9:15 played in the second period of the Montreal-Ottawa game:
Bob Cole: "What a great save by Price!" Only one problem. No one had taken a shot. The Ottawa player had actually bobbled/lost control of the puck before even trying to shoot. As usual Cole also missed penalties, misidentified players and talked about trivial matters while play was going on. In fairness, he even admitted several times that he had made a mistake in his calls. His partners had to spend a lot of time correcting his errors. They have to be getting frustrated. It is definitely time for Bob to retire. |

Hahaha... I was going to post this very same thing last night but decided it wasn't worth it.
At one point, he also made a comment about it looking like both teams wanted to have the lead in the game... like this was some sort of great revelation / surprise to him. I also concluded that there is no possible way Bob Cole is in the same building watching the same game that is being televised. He must either be watching a different game in an alternate universe OR he is watching a game being replayed from tape from his living room. :-) |

At another point last night Cole started to talk about a trivial matter. His partner tried to bring up a more pertinent occurrence that had just happened before the whistle. Cole said a couple of words about it and then returned to his triviality. His partner did not say another word until play was underway even though Cole had finished with a kind of open-ended question about the triviality to his partner. I think he had had enough.
BTW, please note I said partner. I have not a clue who all the colour commentators are anymore. They have become interchangeable parts. And that is not just in North America. I became very aware of this a few months ago when I was in India on vacation. There was a cricket match on ESPN. The TV format was indistinguishable from a hockey, football or baseball broadcast on TSN. Same type of chatter. Same type of never ending speculation about what might or could or should happen. Same second guessing after every play. Same round table of former players and coaches giving their expert opinions. Even player bios. stressing their home towns (as if anyone would really care). I do not know anything about cricket but I felt comfortable listening to the announcers. The game was alien to me but the style of the broadcast was not. I could have been watching a sports broadcast at home. |

Joe Bowen best by a country mile. Straight to point and has a sense of humour.
Tied for worst: Bob Cole ( I sense he doesn't like the Leafs ) and Jim Hughson ( dull monotone robotic ) Nightmare scenario: both of them covering the same game with Brian Williams hosting. |
