@tux I don't think that's enough real world testing for Shaw
I mean seriously, Comcast is testing all of this for free, why not take advantage of that? |

It isn't all about cable boxes though. There is a massive crap-ton of back end hardware and software that is used to keep a cable system running. Part of this DNU upgrade that Shaw is doing, slowly now, but still doing, is to get that back end up to new standards and go completely digital.
There's also the licensing issue. The US and Canada are different countries, just in cause you didn't know that. Different countries have different rules on broadcasting. And of course most of the content we watch is US content, so not only does Shaw have to get the OK from the CRTC, but also the FTC on the American end, and the original US broadcasting partner. It would be awesome for everything to be working now, but nothing happens over night. Everything mentioned in this thread is in the works, but it takes time and money to make it happen. |

![]() I am sure the streaming to iPad will come soon. Once Shaw's main areas are upgrade, they can probably focus on these other features |

Shaw profits are through the roof, and their subscriber base (especially in digital and high end services) keeps growing. Upgrades are part of the cost of doing business and should be ONGOING. Your statement could be inserted in just about any thread I've been reading on this board for the past 7 years +. The technology is there to make some of these things happen. Shaw CHOOSES to operate using a model where they are not cutting edge, but rather play-it-safe, basic type for service. I can't think of one feature they have introduced before the competition.

This has nothing to do with 'live streaming' but the Gateway with 6 Tuners and the ability to play back 6 HD streams at the same time is something no one else in Canada offers. That's a 'feature' no one else has.
This live streaming will be available on more than just iPads once it is made available to the public. I have experienced it myself and it wasn't on an iPad. It's still in testing but it is definitely something they are working on.

And my experience was on a PC several months ago so clearly it is something that is in the works. It is a little surprising to hear it has been going on that long and still nothing deliverable yet.
