only thing wrong with the first try is the lack of epg.
their second try may be worse than the first because of the frequency plan.
I doubt they'll ever have a functioning epg. Until they do they'll never actually "get it right".

also not right because they were massively underpowered. They cut themselves off from millions of people from Toronto and points east.

Does that mean they're giving up their simsub rights for CBS, NBC, and The CW which broadcast in 1080i?

I don't understand what CBS, NBC, and The CW would have to do with CHCH,.. ?

He is saying if CHCH goes to 720P then CHCH will have have down convert the 1080i US signals and therefore not have as good a picture quality as the US feed and therefore not qualify for simsub rights to the US shows.CRTC rules say picture quality must be as good as the US signal to qualify for a simsub.I doubt myself the CRTC will actually enforce this.

user, down-converting an HD signal to another HD signal will not cause CHCH to lose simsub rights.

It will, as rob50312 stated above, the CRTC requires the picture quality to be the same in order to qualify for a simsub. If cable companies are smart enough, they'll stop simsubing CHCH over 1080i US networks, and there won't be anything CHCH can do about it unless they go back to 1080i. I imagine this will give them strong incentive to keep broadcasting at 1080i and not go down to 720p.

The CRTC said same quality not the same resolution. 1080i and 720p are considered equivalent picture quality since progressive scanned images are better than interlaced ones, so it balances out the reduction in resolution.

The thing is ABC and FOX both broadcast in 720p so similarly one could argue that Canadian stations broadcasting in 1080i should loose simsub rights for interlacing their broadcast.

Nice. What's on DTV Program?
so they are now back to where they were pre-transition, telling you when the local news is on?

Default CHCH 51.1 (Alvinston, ON) conversion to HD @ 1080i

Is there any news on converting the CHCH channel 51.1 repeater from Alvinston, ON to 1080i ? Channel Zero converted to digital by the August 31, 2011 deadline last year, but only SD (4:3).

I remember reading that getting the CHCH HD feed to the transmitter is dependant on Bell or Shaw satellite picking up CHCH in HD.

Christian Channel Inc. (ZoomerMedia) requested the CRTC for a 3-years extention in Transfer Benefit Payment for CHNU-DT Fraser Valley and CIIT-DT Winnipeg (Joytv), which were launched by Rogers and sold to S-VOX in 2008, brought by Zoomer in 2010.

Anyways, we learned that the stations lost over 30 million over the last 11 years, and continue operating at a loss, denied access to LPIF funding, not eligible for DTH Small Market Fund, are not widely distributed and had to invest big in order to upgrade to digital OTA broadcasting in 2011. Moreover, they lost 8.2 million in the last 3 years, 1.1 million since the Zoomer takeover.

Yikes!

Default CHCH transition to Rf 15?

Anyone heard anything on the move to 15 recently? I thought we would have heard something by now...

Default CHCH 15RF seems to be up-in-the-air

Seems to suddenly be up-in-the-air. Maybe next month? Next spring? Maybe they will go from OTA to specialty channel status like SunTV did? It seems that nobody at CHCH is willing to offer any comments. If they go to specialty channel status, then they would save $ by eliminating the OTA services in Hamilton and all other rural areas. Maybe OTA broadcasting is no longer in their 15RF dream package?

You can make your comments known to CHCH here: http://www.chch.com/index.php/home/i...channel-change

Or you can phone or send an email to their feedback:
