Default Hauppauge 2250 and Rogers 4250HD cable box…

I have a Hauppauge 2250 TV Tuner and a Rogers 4250HD cable box.

If I try and use the IR Blaster to control the cable box and use the WinTV Blaster configuration to configure and learn the remote it goes through the process of holding 1 button down a couple times but eventually comes up with the message “Remote does not support toggle bit – Retry learning!1”
I was originally using the supplied IR baster from Hauppauge but when I called there support they shipped me a USB IR blaster cable to use but I am getting the same result. When I called them back they just say it doesn’t work with that cable box.

I have also tried to use and setup Windows7 media centre to control the 4250 cable box unsuccessfully.

I realize that I don’t need to control the 4250HD with the 2250 but I was considering purchasing a colossus card or Hauppauge HD PVR to record HD but those devices would need to control the 4250 cable box which is what I am trying to prove can be done with the 2250 which should be the same.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Maybe there is another product I should use with my HTPC and the 4250 to record HD.

Thank You,

I'm not sure what your problem is, but I'm using a Rogers 4250HD with a Colossus, and previously used it with the USB HDPVR, and it always worked fine, so it is doable.

Thanks for the response. That is good to know. I have been trying to get this to work for a while now and am out of ideas.

Are you using the IR blaster that came with the Colossus or a separate USB IR blaster?

Are you using media centre or Hauppauge WinTV?

If I have room in my HTPC I will probably purchase the Colossus card, if not then the HD PVR.

Thank You,

I'm using Windows 7 Media Center. I'm actually using firewire for the 4250 at the moment, but I've also used the Windows Media Center IR receiver/blaster that came with my copy of Windows XP Media Center Edition

From Hauppauge support FAQ:
http://www.hauppauge.com/site/suppor...t_hvr2250.html

Can I get HD with the WinTV-HVR-2250 through my Cable or Satellite box?
No. The WinTV-HVR-2250 has a clear QAM and ATSC over-the-air digital TV tuner built-in and supports all ATSC formats, up to the high definition 1080i format . The WinTV-HVR-2250 will support ATSC broadcasts that are currently being transmitted over-the-air. It will not be able to decode HD broadcasts that come through your cable or satellite box.
If you have an HD cable TV or satellite box and want to record HD TV, you can use Hauppauge's HD PVR.

I believe the OP is trying to test whether he can control the 4250HD. He seems to know that he needs the colossus card or Hauppauge HD PVR to record HD and simply wants to test to see if the 4250 can be controlled. This has nothing to do with Clear QAM. If anyone has that information (controlling a STB), I'm sure the OP would appreciate the appropriate feedback.

To the OP, here's the FAQ on Recording HD. If you wish to use an HTPC, the two options you mentioned are your best (only affordable HTPC) options and have been discussed extensively in this HTPC forum - 3 links in the FAQ (two Hauppauge, one Rogers firewire):

Thanks for the response.

I will purchase colossus card and let you know how it works.

My next related question: If I have a 2250 and the colossus installed and set to record a regular channel and a HD channel at the same time is it possible to make sure the colossus records the HD channel?

You could configure certain tuners to tune to specific channels in NextPVR as well as set different EPG sources (xmltv files) to specific channels.

In Windows Media Center you would select an HD channel, and it would only record from HD sources.

I'm also interested in this. I have a Colossus PCIe, a PVR150 and a PVR250. I would like to get rid of the 2 analog tuner and go with 2 HD PVR.

In reading the notes in the colossus install instructions, it is mentioned that the MCE kit is only working with one card. This is dated 2011.

Anyone tried it?

Pitbull
