They have been around for some time, providing mostly U.S. tv programming to troops overseas. They do have the rights in place apparently.

This internet article agrees with you:

"This Startup Cuts Out The Cable Guy. Is This Legal?!"

http://startupstats.com/ustvnow-cut-...e-guy-2012-03/

"There are clues that suggest this is legal.

Yet for USTVNow, this service may very well be legal as you have to pay for it. You can sign up for a free trial of 2 weeks, but after that, the service costs $19 / month for the first three months ($29 / month if you want DVR services included). You can also purchase 1 day – week long plans (in case you just need to watch the game for a day or something)."

Is the author right on this point or can you receive the big networks for free?

The major networks are free as advertised, no catch. I believe if you have a U.S. IP address you cannot recieve the network stations.

Is there a list of available channels anywhere?

Default billing problems with them

I live in Arequipa Peru and signed up for this service. I did not like it so I canceled. I know they knew I canceled because I received emails from them asking me to come back for a dollar. Today I see a charge on my MasterCard for $29.00 from Nationphone, I guess they own USTVNOW. I am disputing the charges but received no reply from them or my money back????

Do just that, let your credit card company know you are no longer accepting charges from them and to reverse the current charge. If they refuse just cancel your credit card and get another one.

So long as they actually work with the broadcasters and cablecasters, and control access to only rightful recipients, and can get a critical mass of customers to not be an economic sink, they should be around for some time.

iCrave was short because they worked against the broadcasters (on the notion that broadcast for free equals copyright free - a totally wrong notion) and to a degree, regulators.

To me, the pq is acceptable. On the website player there are buttons ranging from low resolution to high but I didn't notice much difference between them. But I signed up only for the basic free package. On the website it says "try our HD Plan" which is one of their paid packages. Have not tried their HD package.

If it survives until next February I'd love to try it out for the superbowl

They are changing their FREE offering. Soon the free service will only be offered in Low Resolution. You will have to pay for better PQ. I guess it's costing them big time to provide the bandwidth, with no revenue coming in.

Thumbs up

Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
I just installed it on my Roku. Which is connected via some sorta VPN service. I get the US networks no problem but just in SD. Not too bad for SD for sure.

Maybe I will give their site a look and see what I can try.

There is also Chanfeed, an internet source of big US nets (ABC, CBS, NBC).

http://chanfeed.com/

You can also watch ESPN, BBC, Eurosport, HISTORY Channel, MSNBC, Discovery, Al Jazeera News, and various live sports feeds.

I have tried it and most of the channels work for me, most of the time, but some do not. I don't get any of the commercials or ads that might pop-up because I watch on Moxilla Firefox and use Adblock Plus...

For those using xbmc there is a plug-in for USTVNOW which works great.
