Oh fiddle sticks! I've now set my PVR to record the US station instead. My husband and I will have to watch Castle's Monday episode from the CTV website instead. How annoying!

It's because of Smash.

Default SMASH Gets A Runaround

Yet another example. NBC's SMASH started on CTV for the first five weeks or so and then was moved, supposedly because of disappointing ratings in Canada, to CTV2 up to episode 14 (tonight). I check ahead and find that it will be moved back to the main CTV next week for the season finale. How does CTV expect any show to retain its audience when it is being moved around so confusingly. Not everyone will check their guides next week and as a result some will end up missing the finale. The audience deserves better treatment.

The only other options are watch in OTA on an NBC if you are in range. Record it on the NBC station and put up with the potential of lousy simsub cutovers at the beginning and the end of the show. Record the west coast feed to get around simsubs if possible. Relying on CTV to broadcast it on a consistent network slot obviously will not work. A demonstration of Vertical integration and concentration of ownership at its very finest!

The simple solution would have been just to set the time to record on NBC and then what ever simsub would have been carried out with the right channel and you would have had the show. My guess is it was moved because of other conflicting shows CTV had to air on Monday, so this was pushed to CTV 2. With those shows season finales happening this week, Smash was able to return to CTV next week.

Actually, another option is to watch NBC on Ku-band FTA satellite. Their HD feeds there actually have even lower compression than NBC on OTA plus coverage is nationwide so you don't have to be near the border to receive it. Oh and... NO SIMSUBS!

I've had no cut offs watching Castle on it's US station. I always set the PVR to record an extra minute before and after anyway. I live out in the middle of nowhere so OTA isn't an option for me. Just wish CTV shows didn't get shoved onto CTV2 throughout a season. It's rather annoying! I use timeshifting a lot and PVR almost everything so knowing where a show is helpful.

Just a reminder that Dancing with the Stars finale next Monday and Tuesday has been moved from CTV2 to CTV.
