One of my RNG200Ns has stopped outputting 5.1 audio (it use to) and now only give me 2.0 PCM. It is set to HDMI audio passthrough and Audio Setup is set to Advanced and Matrix. My other RNG200N is working fine. I have tried rebooting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you actually buy it? If not, just return it and get another one. Of course, you may have to watch all the programming on it first, which could be considerable, if you're like me.

Cogeco - RNG 200N - Firmware 29.73
I just can't seem to get S/PDIF output to work. I just get nothing from it. I want to feed a sound bar and I know the audio setup is good since if I put the optic cable from my TV it works fine. I have tried every combination of the audio setup and the 'front panel' - but life is a still joyless. As a new customer I am reluctant to phone Cogeco as they usually just reset things and everything stays the same. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks Benthamman |

Do you have another audio system you could try it with?
Have you tried S/PDIF with coax instead of optical? Mine works fine through either setup with the same firmware. |

Thanks Andicus,
No other audio system to try - but everything has worked on this one so far - so I doubt if that is the issue. I don't think I have anything that would accept a co-ax (actually I didn't know you could use S/PDIF with co-ax!) so I guess that doesn't take me nearer either. As an aside... my sound levels from RNG 200N (HDMI to TV, then optical S/PDIF from TV to Audio optical input on soundbar) go way up and down for no apparent reason. TV fed from another source is rock solid sound. Is this a fault as well? Benthamman |

Hmmm... My audio may vary between stations, or program vs. commercial, but it doesn't fluctuate like you're describing.
Yeah, S/PDIF can use either an optical cable, or coax with RCA connectors. The connector is just above the optical port on the RNG200N. Speaking of the optical port, I take it you do see the port glowing? Also, does your soundbar decode Dolby Digital bitstreams? If it only supports PCM, that could be the problem. |

Actually I don't think it does support Dolby - or at least its not mentioned here. http://store.vizio.com/vsb200.html Yes, the port glows away invitingly Benthamman |

Actually, I just looked at the user manual for the vsb200 and it is confirmed: Problem: No sound on Optical In Solution: The source device may be set to AC3 (Dolby Digital) output. SRS TS-HD requires PCM audio (Lt/Rt encoded for movies). Change the device output to PCM. |

I have done a bunch of queries and not found anything like what I have been experiencing. My apologies if I have missed an obvious thread somewhere. Since about Christmas we have been in a situation where we cannot do any series recordings (previous to that date the Pace was awesome). We go to the guide, select a future program, call up the info and try to do the series recording. It gets to the point where we click the Record with the above settings and then nothing happens. Series recordings list is blank and no indicator on the program for what we want to record. In order to troubleshoot I have indicated that it should record all shows regardless of whether its new or not etc. We are able to record individual programs without issue (even days into the future).
Called Cogeco Support. The recommended the Canadian version of the same program, and that is not the issue. Tech support informed me that it is "one of those annoyances we just have to put up with". Even going so far as to say that she also has the same issue on her machine and has had to do the week to week manual recording thing for a few years now. Firmware is up to date according to the tech. And they indicate that a replacement unit will do no difference. Any ideas on how to resolve? |

I am now on my 4th pace RNG200N and yesterday the DVR service is unavailable which means I cannot get to my recordings.
So i call Cogeco, they say yes there seems to be an issue with this, so they need to keep track of it and asked for the SW revision number and reset my box. Still no DVR service, in fact after the reset I could not even go through the guide. It was hung, so I unplugged the unit for 30 seconds and plugeed it back it then boot message stayed on for 20 min then after giving up on this piece of junk it appeared to start working again except the DVR service is still unavailable. arrgghhhh! They now say I need yet another new box, all my recordings are lost. In my mind this is unacceptable. The customer needs a way to save these programs other than on these idiotic boxes. I have a proven track record that these boxes are unreliable! I know they have an e-sata port but apparently according to Cogeco the pace will encrypt the recordings on the e-sata only for that pace unit. If you hook up another pace box to your e-sata drive it won't work! If I can't find a way to save off the recordings then I will cancel and go OTA, at least then I can use off the shelf storage devices. Last edited by 57; 2012-07-26 at 02:50 PM. The files on the HDDs are encrypted and linked to the PVR itself. There's no way to download or save them directly. The only option would be something like the Hauppauge HDPVR Devices on an HTPC, discussed in the Recording HD FAQ and the HTPC forum here:
