Hello,
Currently on High Speed Videotron internet. We are thinking of moving about an hour north of Ottawa. Now I think I will be losing out on high speed internet access and will probably fall back to using a slower internet service. I am wondering the following. If the LAND lot I am considering has an hydro pole thus electricity, will I have phone access meaning DSL Service? If not is Satellite Service a fall back solution? |

Wait a minute, people have electricity outside of Ottawa, when did this happen?
Seriously though this is not much information to go on, will you be in a town or on a rural lot? Have you checked with Bell via your new address or phone number? My brother lives on a farm half way between North Bay and Mattawa and he has 3meg dsl. It is all about distance from your nearest Central Office (CO) or remote. |

Another question is then this: Is the following statement correct. Where there is a phone line DSL is available. Correct? And is satellite service superior or about the same?

There are a lot of areas in rural Canada that do not have DSL service, even though they have phone service. If the new property is so remote that it doesn't have cable TV service, then it's quite possible it doesn't have DSL service either. The only way to know for sure is to check with the telco.
In most cases, DSL will give better performance and cost less than satellite. |

It LIKELY doesn't have DSL. I live about three KM away from Sarsfield, where they have Rogers cable/high speed, and in addition to not being able to get cable here, DSL is also not an option.
Just call the phone company with the address, and they will tell you what is available. |

Doesn't Bell have a web site where you can enter a phone num and they can tell you if you can get DSL. Find a phone num of someone else who lives in the same area and give it a try. Folks in rural areas often have names on their mail box and you can then just enter that into Canada411 assuming that they are listed, which they likely are if they advertise their name on their mail box.
