frankmar - exactly my thinking. It really comes down to what the individuals' needs are. For me I only have a 15 channel package, don't use on demand that much (have access to Netflix US and Canada) so if the illico 2.0 is a fast, efficient interface I will be fine.

I got Bell Sat with old theme pack options and would not change for Fibe or Videotron.

The advantage that Videotron has IMO is that their a la carte selection is bigger. You can choose GSN or BPMTV. Fibe is very limited for that. They have fewer channels to choose from. If you want some channels you have to pick their pre assembled packages. For Example if I were to to choose GSN it would cost me $83.

Bell Sat has more locals like CTV Montreal,Winnipeg,Calgary, Vancouver etc. Sometimes when I miss I show I watch later on a different time.
Both Fibe and Videotron is limited in this.

On the other hand Fibe and Sat do not have a HD fee. Videotron has a $3 fee.

Fibe has better pricing. Check out their international channels and the Movie Network is way cheaper than Videotron. This is even before Bell bought Astral.

One thing I like about Sat is their Receivers. I don't know about Fibe but find Videotron atrocious. Very laggy at times.

On the other hand Videotron does not lose their signal because of weather.

So pros and cons on all of them.

I understand that that is Videotron's business strategy. Maybe it is the optimal balance between their revenue and expenditures and therefore the biggest profit for them.

However, I am a paying customer. I have been enduring not be able to watch so many shows available out there for years. Living in apartment buildings in Montreal, I did not have any other choice but to suck it up with Videotron. Videotron's strategy may be good for them, but not for me.

At this point, I do not care much about picture quality. I do not care that Videotron is offering me new PVR. I do not care much about price difference. My wish is simply more HD channels of my preference. And therefore I am moving to Bell Fibe.

So no, the title is not true for me. There is no competition from Videotron. As long as Videotron keeps its offering as limited as it is now, its new generation does not appeal to me at all.

Funny story. I called Videotron to cancel my service. The representative tried to give me the argument similar to what frankmar wrote. When I mentioned offering, he tried to give me new HD PVR with low rent. At the end, he said, "I really can't do anything about the channels you want."

I agree with Hercules concerning the title. I think it is the opposite. If you look at what videotron is doing they are actually reacting to bell's aggressive approach. And now are offering free PVR,free installation something they were not doing just a couple of months ago. Concerning Videotron 's French lineup they do not have all that many more french channels. Plus Bell bought Astral which has the more popular French channels.

Default Stiff Competition!

I moved from Videotron to Bell Fibe in January and I do not regret it at all. The bottom line is value for money and to me it is all about content in HD. You do not watch TV because of the operating system. Even if Bell Fibe were more expensive I still would have moved. I'd rather pay more for channels that I want to watch than pay less for channels I never watch.

Plus Bell Fibe is the newcomer so naturally they are the ones competing and being agressive with Videotron.

I've now had illico 2.0 for a few days and although it's in many ways an improvement over version 1.0, really it's just a new menu and overall user interface for the same service. I still plan on switching to Fibe in the near future simply because Videotron is not offering any new content or services with illico 2.0. It's just "window dressing" or a "new coat of paint" on the same old service. For someone comparing the two services, I don't see how illico 2.0 provides any great amount of additional competition for Fibe than illico 1.0 did. In some ways it's easier to use, but in others, it's not entirely intuitive (to be fair I've only used it for a few days). Mind you, I haven't had a chance to really try Fibe's user interface either. I'm just posting to emphasize that there's very little in illico 2.0 to tip the scales in its favor for anyone thinking of switching to Fibe. In fact, I'm even more anxious to switch now, just a matter of overcoming the typical inertias of life! ;-)
